This series could potentially fill the 'lunar chronicles void' in my heart in terms of amazing characters , intriguing world, and a truly exciting plot. It was way better than The Grisha trilogy, which I was a bit "meh" about. I ship all the ships here!

Where do I even begin?

This book is so unlike any other YA fantasy book I’ve read. Usually, our typical YA fantasy contains quite a predictable plot line, with quite conventional characters—you know those ones (girl discovering her powers, suddenly burdened with responsibility to save the world, falls madly in love with her best friend ehem ehem alina ehem ehem). But mannnnn, there is nothing conventional about our six main characters. For starters, Kaz’s character intro was legit one of the best character intros I’ve ever come across. Our fave anti hero just swept me off my feet, and yes, I am a sucker for those bad boy character types, but never did I think I’d fall madly in love with a savage, murderous, ruthless thief in a span of a good 20 pages or however long chapter 2 is. The intro was just -mwah- chefs kiss.

And the character developments in this book!!!! Omg!!!! Kaz and Inej in particular (but Matthias deserves a special shoutout too). The growth is just impeccable. And I love how Leigh explores each of their pasts. She writes some pretty heavy experiences for each of the crows, but she doesn’t romanticize the trauma they went through, flaunting it as something “beautiful,” or too much of that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” type of bs, cuz she shows just how much it DOESN’T always make you stronger, how much it affects Kaz and Inej in the present timeline, depicting them as human beings who are still suffering from the trauma they endured however many years ago. At one instance a character may be fine—walking down the Barrel, or maybe planning to sneak into a prison wagon—and the next, something triggers them into have a horrible traumatic flashback; that to me just feels so real. And in that way, we get six badass, realistic characters who aren’t painted as “beautifully suffering.” They’re just human beings who have endured a lot in their life—but also happen to be badass.

Anyway, needless to say I am both ecstatic and heartbroken to begin Crooked Kingdom and finally put an end to the story of our six beloved crows.

It's entertaining and adventurous enough. It did not blow me away but that's okay, this book was still good.

Reason I rated this 3 stars is because I got intrigued by the plot that when I started to read this I was already set to look for something to keep me up on my toes however I wasn't able to find one. The story and the action were satisfactory, I just hoped there were more complexity and room for mystery.

I did love how the characters blended well with each other, also there is one loveline that was very well made ---- i just loveeee how there is no sexual tension YET they exude soooo much chemistry.

The ending was a cliffhanger but It did not make me crazy thinking what will happen in the next book and that is okay.

Overall, I still think that it is a good book it was just lacking in some ways but not too much to make me dnf this one. That itself is good enough for me to read the next book though I'm not in a rush.

dnf'ed at 290.

I've read the Grisha trilogy because I was told SoC would be the best thing ever. But... I feel zero connection to the characters and the story building is just really.... plain?? I just can't seem to get through w it. I've tried (I mean I even read the grisha trilogy ffs).

Goal for 2019: It's okay if you don't like a book everyone else seems to love. It's okay to dnf a book. For now, I just need to start something new and get out of this reading slump.

SCREAMING, CRYING, THROWING UP. I love this book. It 100% deserves all the praises it gets.
Do I still not fully understand the grishaverse even tho I’ve read s&b and this. Yes, but it’s alright I’m still able to fall in love with it . It’s a me problem. The PLOT TWISTS, did not see them coming and THAT ending. I’m deceased! honestly Leigh’s writing just makes it better.

I had already been spoiled about all the good quotes and couples, and it kinda ruined my reading experience. If I hadn’t been spoiled this would definitely be a five star book.

My fav characters are definitely Inej and Jesper. I just love them and want to protect them with all my heart. I also relate to them a little to much. All the characters have complex and heartbreaking backgrounds. Kaz’s story, I don’t blame him for becoming the person he is today. I can’t wait to find out more about Wylan in the next book. I’m looking forward to his development the most.

Absolutely adored it and demolished it - literally couldn’t put it down and when I did I couldn’t stop thinking about it
