This was amazing! Such a helpful look at the stories that I tell myself and how to wrestle with them to figure it all out. A must read if you want to start dealing with your own stuff.

There was a lot of valuable information in this book, but for some reason I simply couldn't feel engaged with what the author was saying. Her writing seemed a bit disjointed, I couldn't find a progression from defining a problem, discussing its aspects and coming to a solution. There were many anecdotes which would generally outline the central idea of the book, but for me personally, they felt exactly like that - anecdotes, not a coherent narrative.
Still, at the end, there was a very powerful summarisation of the ideas presented in the book:
1. Cultivating authenticity: letting go of what people think
2. Cultivating self-compassion: letting go of perfectionism
3. Cultivating a resilient spirit: letting go of numbing and powerlessness
4. Cultivating gratitude and joy: letting go of scarcity and fear of the dark
5. Cultivating intuition and trusting faith: letting go of the need for certainty
6. Cultivating creativity: letting go of comparison
7. Cultivating play and rest: letting go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth
8. Cultivating calm and stillness: letting go of anxiety as a lifestyle
9. Cultivating meaningful work: letting go of self-doubt and “supposed to”
10. Cultivating laughter, song, and dance: letting go of being cool and “always in control”
I believe I have more to gain from reading this author, so I will definitely read more of her books.

In this divisive age of fear and anger, Brown's research and talking points are arguably some of the most important to consider.

Love the author's tone and combination of personal stories and academic knowledge. Read the book at a time when I was in the dirty stages of wrestling with a relationship struggle, so I am already looking forward to re-reading it at a time when my brain has more energy to dig into the knowledge shared instead of just searching for bits of information that may help with my immediate struggle.

A challenging and inspiring follow-up to Daring Greatly; I've given it four stars as I personally found it harder to synthesize the learnings from this book, but I imagine it'll benefit from many re-readings and further reflections.
