This book got under my skin. It is the most heatwarming tragedy I have read in my life and resonated with me long after I finished reading the book.

I enjoyed this book so much. Such a unique voice, extremely loveable and tangible characters, and a pace that just keeps you interested at each page.
I don't remember the last book where I had so much fun, while it still being sincere and heartfelt.

Normally, I strictly read fiction, but I read this for book club and this memoir right here is 👌🏾 I started this book just expecting drag queens and found an unexpectedly sweet and tender love story. This is not a happy story, though. There are issues with alcoholism, addiction and some violence so read with care.
P.S. Be aware that this book takes place in the 80s or 90s and was written in 2006. There were some scenes and language that made me uncomfortable and would absolutely not fly in present day. Also be aware that they used formerly common terms for the trans community that are now outdated.
TW: Alcoholism, drug use, sex work, incest (reference), physical assault, ableism (slurs), dubious consent, transphobia (slurs/outdated terminology), racism (Asian/Indigenous accent mocking/bits), addiction, fatphobia, domestic violence
Rep: Queer MCs (achillean)

Hands down, one of the weirdest books I have ever read. I'm not really sure I enjoyed it. It was unsettling for sure to see people live like this when they were clearly crying out for something (at times much more than others) and other times they maybe seemed to be happy? It was weird.
