I regret holding out on reading this book for so long. First off i absolutely adore both Bree and Archer. I adore their strength and their chemistry. Their backstories are so heart breaking. I felt the kicking feet, toe curling and blushing happiness, The “i wanna punch something” madness, and the absolute sobbing sadness. This book was everything and it’s easily a 5 star for me!

But why did Mia have to include “ilu” in their texts?? that was the only thing i actually cringed at.

Genuinely I’m so confused as to how this book has over 4 stars, and was probably the most recommended book to me ever!

My main issue is the author telling everything literally rather than showing. The writing is bad.

Other than that:
Weird infantilizing of the mute character even within sexually explicit scenes which feels particularly gross for me. Language at times was terribly ableist and weird, especially describing the MFC’s love for the MMC. Feels way too contrived to have
brothers fighting over a single girl in both generations
. The way what I see as non-consent (intoxicated, inexperience, character is mute) is handled is gross. How does someone own a town?? Everyone states the MMC is supposed to be so sweet and lovely but his jealousy and inability to trust the MFC when she says she will do something or feels a certain way (despite her literally never having lied to him) is gross and not in line with a sweet, lovely, MMC. His virginity also like goes beyond virginity into borderline not knowing about sex at all which just comes across again as infantilizing and gross. There are just an ungodly amount of explicit scenes with nothing of substance or interest in between.

I am the target audience for this book like everyone recommended it to me for a sweet MMC and disability representation but it’s just so poorly executed in every way in my opinion, I couldn’t even finish it.

The story is sweet, although it dragged on a little at times. The sex scenes seemed a little immature and desperate, almost as if they were wattpad stories. There could have been less of them, too. My biggest pet peeve with this book was the repetitiveness of several of the phrases. Every time I read the word “delicious” I cringed. It would make a good drinking game though... Take a shot every time you see the phrases delicious, glittering, smiled a small smile (or any form of this same phrase) or I drank him in. Those were on every other page it seemed. Also, the “molest” comment was a little uncalled for and weird. It was definitely out of place and random. Aside from some immature writing and repetitive phrases, the story was okay. Definitely wasn’t a tear jerker though (I cry easily when I connect with a book.) This one just didn’t do it for me. All in all, it was alright. Wouldn’t recommend on my own, but wouldn’t stop someone from reading it if they wanted to.

The beginning is kinda slow but other than that the storyline keeps you locked it. Archers childhood is rough but he is sweet, caring, vulnerable man that with have you think 'husband material'. <Be prepared to hate Travis in this book >. I would recommend this book
