This was a cute read, and I really like Ambrose and Fern together. I thought it was a great story, showing that beauty is on the inside, and even if the outside never catches up, you should always go for internal beauty. I really enjoyed it.

I edited the blurb because I felt it gave away far too much of the storyline. I knew what was to come, but it didn't make it less heartwrenching. I loved both the leads. Fern is absolutely relatable as the late bloomer with an addiction to romance novels. She dreams of being a writer one day but for now is content to stay close to her aging parents, cousin, and best friend. The book calls it the "Ugly Girl Syndrome" - she is very busy helping everyone else to realize her outside is slowly starting to match her insides.

Ambrose Young is the star athlete, has the world on a plate, with a body descended from the gods. He's actually dubbed Hercules by Bailey, Fern's cousin who looks up to Ambrose. Fern has been in love with him since they were kids, but he is oblivious to her. He's not a bad kid, quite the opposite, but the weight of his future is wearing him down and he changes his path with severe consequences.

If you don't want to read it for either of them, read it for Bailey, who is my favorite character and provides the comic relief when it gets really weighty with emotion. He is going into my vault of most memorable characters ever. I adored this book, it's going to be one I tell everyone I know to read and will likely be in the very top of my Best of 2018 reads. It gave me three ugly cry headaches, I had to keep stopping and then just finally succumbed and finished it with tears streaming...there is a HEA, don't worry. If I didn't have a read-a-thon to power through, I would one heck of a book hangover. So incredibly beautiful, go read it NOW!!!!

5 'Do you feel that?' Stars

Hell yes, I feel it! I felt the innocence, the humor, the love, the hurt, the regret, the fear, the guilt, the anguish, the misery, the heartache...I felt it ALL. I felt it so much, I had to keep reminding myself that this was only a book... Only a story about a made up town with made up characters. These people aren't really going through this. This didn't really happen. But the beauty and sadness of it all is that this IS reality. This isn't some paranormal romance about werewolves or zombies. THIS is real life. This is probably someone's reality. I was absolutely enraptured by these characters. I grew to love them like I knew them. I experienced this story like it was personal and that's the reason why I'm rambling in this review with a runny nose and red-rimmed eyes.

A beautiful tale of coming of age and life as bittersweet as it can be.

I really wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. It moved me to tears on many occasions.

Nevertheless, a wonderful read.

Re-reading this for the third time now.
Ambrose has always been such a solid guy, 10/10, chefs kiss! I love that the story brought angst, and how these characters dealt with loss in the aftermath of a war tragedy. However, you didn’t have to do my man Bailey like that Amy

This book was so deep. Some of the stuff said was so valuable to keep in mind in life. It made me cry because I felt their pain rolling off the pages of the book. Also I cried because how some stuff happened wasn't fair but that's life.

Wow. I felt such a strong pull to these characters and I loved every moment. The emotion was powerful and it felt so real; like life, it had humor and tragedy and strength and love. I will definitely reread this book over and over.
