A tense courtroom drama with a fair plot, but marred by Connelly introducing his own political bias completely unnecessarily. We read books like this for entertainment, not to have the author's politics forced down our throats. What would have been a four-star rating was brought down to one star by this unwanted proselytising.

So, Haller is not my favorite character by Connelly. I'm pretty sure he's the sort of person I would find annoying in real life. However, this book has me rethinking that. Something about his self-defense and the familial scenes made him more sympathetic. I am actually looking forward now to reading other books with the Lincoln Lawyer as the main character. I had been avoiding them, had picked one or two up to start and then put them down, but maybe my perspective has been changed enough to get into that sub-set of the "Bosch Universe." The series is growing on me and I've started a backward read of the whole thing in order, probably a year-long project or more. Now on to #33, The Night Fire, but first a detour of sorts with Fair Warning. Thank goodness the library has them all or I would end up in the poor house.
