too cliché for me, but did enjoy how easy it was to read and the writing style. golden retriever boy meets semi grumpy girl who wasn’t interested in him, both interested in the full time job - plot was slow at first and then all came about at once.

  • I really enjoyed this one. It was fun and mostly light-hearted
  • I really enjoyed Benny and Reese(as evidenced by the fact that writing this review 4 books later I remember their names)
  • I adored Benny and how he persisted after Reese, how he sought to make her feel comfortable and cared for
  • Reese felt like a really well developed character as she carried her desire to grow and join in the friends of flavor but also she struggled with the effects of public perception prior and how that impacts her now
  • I thought the book explored the difficulties of being a woman in the workplace and on social media without smacking you in the head with it
  • The banter was good (ugh the nicknames were so cute), the characters were full, and the plot was solid
  • I had a fabulous time reading and it felt like I just absolutely devoured it

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley- thank you!

This book wasn't really what I expected. I thought it would be a light, cute read that involved a food competition, but the competition didn't really end up being as big of a part of the story. I thought Benny was a cute character, and I did like Reese, though she did annoy me at times (I had to remind myself she was 18, and my 18 year old self would annoy me right now too lol). Overall, it was a sweet read that was a bit heavier than I expected.

When Reese lands the internship of her dreams at a company that has to do with everything food, she's thrilled. Even though she wants to do more. So when she's paired up with backwards cap boy Benny, and they film an impromptu cooking session, the internet goes while. Because their chemistry is amazing. But Reese doesn't want to get close to him, because as charming as he may be, he's also her competition, vying for the same spot that she is. But she just can't help herself...

This was such a cute YA rom-com from debut author Kaitlyn Hill! I loved reading about the behind the scenes of the cooking channel, and Reese's voice was just so much fun! Hill does a great job with the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope and I really enjoyed watching their slow burn romance play on the pages. And the way Benny actually cares about Reese is just adorable.

I also liked how this book touched on cyber-bullying, specifically towards females. I think it's very prevalent in society today (especially towards young women) and I thought that Hill dealt with the subject matter very well.

Overall, this one is just plain cute. And if you love food-themed-romances, this one will have you hungry and swooning over the two main characters.

Can't wait to read Kaitlyn Hill's next romance!
