This time I was like a cast reading and it was still horrible. The voices weren't even the same sound level. I love Gail carriages but will have to read it myself

I loved the Parasol Protectorate series and was sad to read the last book. When I saw this little prequel story was available I was excited to revisit the world that Carriger had created. Sadly, I just did NOT like Alessandro Tarrabotti. The fussy, prissy things I found so interesting and amusing in his daughter just seemed like affectation here. He was also ruthless, which was not what I was expecting.

I wish Carriger had written a prequel that was more about Floote. Now him I like!

I really like Alexia Tarabotti. I love the humor with which she is written. I like that she's smart and not about to take crap. I admire Alexia. When she's abrasive, it is to good reason. And she loves her tea.

I'm actually glad that her father is long gone (dead? Missing...dunno, I'm only to book 4 I think) in the parasol protectorate books because here, he is quite detestable. I really didn't enjoy it much at all, largely due to him.

Well, this was a disappointment. It was boring as boring can be. :( I also didn't have a clue what was going on for most of the book. Cat mummies? Real mummies? Suddenly battles and Templars and what not?
