This book has a unique and creative premise, and does a good job building up a creepy atmosphere. It does a nice job of keeping you guessing as well. That said, the ending felt rushed and unsatisfying.

It was a really quick read though, so if you want a scary story it would be worth it!К

“Truth is not always in a well. In fact, as regards the more important knowledge, I do believe that she is invariably superficial. The depth lies in the valleys where we seek her, and not upon the mountain-tops where she is found.”

It’s hard to believe that this is cited as the first detective story in literature. I do give it points for that, and I certainly did not expect the conclusion of the mystery, but who would? An Orangutan with a razor blade did those murders? Even in 1841 I would be shocked to find anyone who would find that ending plausible. I’d like to know what Edgar was on whilst writing this story. If anybody knows, send me some.

I really enjoyed reading through this one! I'm not gonna lie that I'm a bit let down by the actual "murderer" however, the story made up for it. Poe created one of the first detective stories which is just so cool to me.

We can see how Poe inspired detective stories, as well as sci-fi (The Unparalleled Adventure of one Hans Pfall) to begin, I love it!!
