Another enjoyable outing with Cormoran and Robin, this time as he is hired to find a missing author.

Half of J. K. Rowling's characters' problems are solved by having basic conversations. Two of the conflict subplots here are resolved very quickly by that. It just takes 80% of the book before they happen.

I didn't read the book that came before this one, but I plucked this off the virtual library shelf mainly out of curiosity (because we all know who this author really is, right?). Although I found it sometimes over-written for my taste, the cast of characters was intriguing and it held my interest all the way through. I found the main character a little too reminiscent of Stephen R. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant--in other words, kind of annoying in his preoccupation with his disability. I don't mean to downplay such a challenge, but I felt the author overused it as a character element.

At any rate, though, the plot was engaging and the pace leisurely but compelling. I think most mystery readers would enjoy!

Holy cow, just as good as the first, if not better. Rowling is on a roll. Can't wait for the next.

Entertaining. I liked the premise of this one a little more than the premise of the first book. The characters continued to be interesting and likable. I enjoyed the fun that Galbraith poked at the world of writing and publishing. Although (unusually, for me) I spent effort trying to guess whodunnit before the big reveal, I totally failed. (I had my hat pinned on
SpoilerPinkerton,
actually. ;) )

this was a great f@cking book...seriously.

from the first few chapters, rowling (do i have to pretend it is galbraith?) places you in london and surrounds you with the believable and relatable characters. i did not want to stop reading.

so i could compare it to raymond chandler, easily: just a compelling and readable with perhaps more details and better dialogue. i could also compare strike to potter: both wounded male characters who the world some looks down on, or admires...both of whom have famous parents who, in some ways, determine their existences, either through a denial or embrace of said parents. but really what is most admirable about this book is rowling. she is a phenomenal writer worthy of all praise that comes her way.

it reminded me of king and his bachman books. rowling is so incredibly talented at created new spaces with lively characters and intrigue. there were many characters to juggle in this book, but i felt that no one got the short end of the stick, development-wise, and all of them are completely believable.

i have already ordered "the cuckoo's calling" and cannot wait to read it and the rest of the books in the series. pick it up and just read it. you will not regret it.

This was too gruesome for my taste but I like the characters and I enjoyed that difficult aspects of relationships in the story were resolved realistically rather than just easily via any sort of literary adjustment. I like the way Rowling leads us through the novels of Cormoran Strike as in the way it might unfold in reality. I do wish she would provide us with more clues though so that we could make guesses as we read along. These are great books to just enjoy the adventure!
