There were 3 storylines: the shooting, Simon's anxiety about being a good parent, and the relationship between Simon and Rachel. It was one storyline too many.

Sad, moving book that’s hard to stomach in a time of mass shootings. The flashbacks were challenging when I wanted to unwind the present quickly. Not sure I’m ready to read mass shootings in fiction when they’re very much non fiction problems currently.

I won this book from the Goodreads Giveaway in return for an honest review.

From the very beginning you are thrown into the emotions of Simon Connolly. Through a first person perspective, you get the chance to see through Simon's eyes and discover the human being that was his son, Jake. I found myself emotionally invested, and unable to put the book down. I tend to lean more towards fantasy novels, so I was hopeful this book would be able to grab my attention, and it did not let down.

I won this book in a First Reads giveaway and wow! This book really hits me hard because like the family I have a teenage son and I can't even imagine how I would feel if this happened to me. I don't even know what to put into words how this book makes me feel. I would recommend this book to everyone especially those with teenagers. Parenting is the hardest and most frustrating and most rewarding job in a persons life and I could not imagine going through this situation. I don't like to give spoilers in my reviews so I really try not to, all I can say is PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!

This was a one sitting read for me. I was sucked into the story and couldn't put it down. This book is one that goes from past to present and it gives you the whole picture of Jakes family and how he grew up to be teenager he was at the time of phone call. The story will make you cry, laugh and really think about how things are in today's society.

I loved this book. It was different to read from a stay at home dad's view, how he looked back at the memories that shaped the way he saw his son and how much he loved his children. his determination to prove Jake was innocence and his search for him was what kept me flipping through this book. it took me 5 hours to read it and I wished it were longer so I could've enjoyed it a little more.

I was really affected by this book. It was a very emotional experience for me as the mother of a child with Aspbergers. The author never labels Jake as autistic, but his characteristics align closely with the diagnosis. I can't say I ENJOYED this book because it is so sad and dark, but it is definitely a powerful read.

What a fantastic read! Simon is a stay-at-home dad who is devastated by his town's accusations about his son's involvement in the town's local high school shooting.

I'm unsure about the story, and it took me time to become interested, but eventually, I got so invested in the characters that I was heartbroken. I didn't always agree with Simon or his wife; their relationship was lacking, which made it more realistic. If you enjoy heart-wrenching stories and aren't triggered by the subject of school shootings, I recommend this story.
