I couldn't finish this one. I think it was just my mood though. So many things are vampire related lately I think I just didn't want to read about anymore. I'm sure I'll try again.

A little confusing with the various story lines and time lines, but I still plan on reading the third book.

I'm invested in the story, so I'm reading it, but this was definitely not as good as The Passage. Not as exciting as the first one and a little disjointed. The concentration-camp setting was a little heavy-handed. I think it would have been better if he had actually acknowledged that it was modeled on the concentration camps of the holocaust. Cronin also has an odd habit of writing in a very readable style, then randomly using a ten-dollar word that I have never seen before. It is jarring and feels like he used the thesaurus feature in Word just to prove he's a good writer. I did like that Sarah got more focus in this book, but all the characters - especially the women - seem pretty flat. I'm the home series the only character that seems complex is Wolgast (who's only in this book a little bit).

It has been a very long wait for me to continue this epic tale of a Nation that has been overrun by a Government experiment gone wrong, VERY wrong. I remember when I first read the passage I remember loving the fact that it was so unlike any other vampire novel i had read previously. They didn't sparkle or fall on love with teenage girls. They ripped people apart and didn't think anything of it.

In The Twelve the story continues with Amy and her quest to find answers to the questions that were left once Wolgast left her on her own. During the course of the novel we follow not only Amy but an array of characters that delve into the world that seems to real when you are reading it. The one thing that I found a little disheartening in this novel was the volume of characters that I had to follow throughout the book. I found that I got confused really easily as to who was who and because we switch switched years I felt like there were a lot of connections that I might have missed.

Now I have to talk about the writing because it was beautiful and tragic at the same time. While I was reading I found myself seeing every scene playing in my mind and it was amazing! It literally felt like this book could be developed into a movie...a very long movie but a great movie none the less.

I will warn everyone that there are some VERY graphic scenes in this book and at times I felt myself cringing at the images that were described but I loved every second of it because it was so different from all of the other Vampire books that I have read. The Twelve is more about the aftermath concerning citizens rather than the vampires themselves but it is still a great read for horror fans and literary fans as well. I really enjoyed this sequel, not as much as The Passage, but still quite enjoyed the characters and the direction the story took near the end(which was nowhere near where I thought it would go).

As compelling as the first book, this sequel to The Passage is nuanced, captivating, and enjoyable. Cronin's world-building is brilliant and frightening. Looking forward to the next one!

This book just demanded too much effort to read.
The writing was okay, but took some getting used to as it's written intentionally with some distance. Idk why I didn't like it as much as the first. Maybe cause I knew it was about zombies now and I don't like zombies much??

I’m going to be honest and say I didn’t like the idea of jumping into the future following the story of The Passage, with a whole new setting and new characters, but I definitely underestimated this book. I came to love the new characters and throughly enjoyed the details of the post-apocalyptic world. While there were many more perspectives within this book, each followed the same timeline and didn’t cause confusion. The stories of both the protagonists and the antagonists were amazing and it definitely lived up to the reputation of The Passage.
