Weird book. The ending fell kind of flat, but I didn't anticipate it, so... I suppose it was very suspenseful.

Quite a successful thriller, heavy on the what-will-happen-next factor.

The pacing is steady, the tension is clear, sexual, and discomfiting. Rose offers just enough details to sustain your interest, and plants subtle seeds into the plot to keep you turning the page.

For some this will be pure fun and an engaging read, but others might find the slow progression and sudden double whammy twist dissatisfying.

Character motivation seems surface level, and the twist unearned. The seeds planted earlier in the story don’t establish strong enough roots to ever have that retrospective understanding of certain details that tie back later.

I acknowledge that may be a personal preference though, and overall found the story sexy and entertaining.

Joe Golberg from “You” meets the female Dexter. But neither MC’s are that interesting. Lots of plot holes in this story. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters & I basically rolled my eyes every time Calvin talked. What an obsessive cry baby loser, major “lil d energy”

All that suspense build up just for everything to unravel in the last few chapters & not everything got an explanation..

It’s hard for me to rate this book. I enjoyed the mystery for the most part, although it did linger a bit too long. I did guess most of the “plot twist.” I’m not an exceptional guesser but the hints throughout the book made it fairly obvious.

That said, upon reflection there are still major plot holes in the book. Like how do characters fall in love with each other in a few days?! So many other unexplained events. The ending didn’t tie up all the loose ends. As a result it was not particularly satisfying and felt a bit rushed.

It was a quick read and kept me entertained so it gets a 3 from me.

This is the third audiobook I’ve ever listened to all the way through and I liked the narrators regular voices. BUT when each narrator tried to imitate voices of other characters it was very offputting. I wish they stuck with their normal voices.

Quick question: what the fuck was that?

I thought I had a sense of where the book was going, but I definitely didn’t. It tries too hard to be thrilling and romantic, and ultimately fails at both. The first… 80% or so feels like a bad romance novel where the love interest is probably a stalker. And then it takes a turn in an… interesting, unexpected direction.

I’ve heard Jeneva Rose referred to as “the queen of unexpected twists,” and I suppose that’s technically true. Though, usually, twist endings make sense when you look back over the book — you can usually find clues that looked innocuous at first glance, but are actually foreshadowing the twist. That wasn’t my experience.

I feel like the last 15% of the book was written entirely for shock value, and had no real connection to the plot. I mean…
Grace turning out to be a serial killer using an alias?
It would’ve been an interesting reveal had it actually felt connected to the rest of the book, but I just sat there, saying “wait… what’s going on?” for the last 5 or 6 chapters of the book. My advice: Skip it. Certainly won’t be reading from her again.

I enjoyed this book a lot. There was a lot of build up to the final twist and it honestly felt like it came out of nowhere. There weren't many hints as to what the twist was, but that can be good or bad. I do like Jeneva Rose's writing.

It was entertaining enough that I was able to finish the book, but I just did not find the plot interesting nor did the ending provide a satisfying twist. I don’t want to ever read “those blue blue eyes” ever again.
I guess her having a whole ass family at the end was surprising. It doesn’t make sense for her personality but oh well. I did suspect her being bad, thought Calvin was going to end up being good lol.
