I was a little wary going in - I didn't finish this pre-Labor Day - should I read a summer book post-Labor Day?? Well, despite the cover, this book isn't really a "beach book" - small point - but the main action does seem to occur in the shoulder season in Montauk which is a nice change from typical touristy-driven books. And the storyline between the friends was a lot deeper and more complex - and just smarter - than I had expected. The trauma that occurred years ago was legit - not some teenager drama that lingered and broke up a friendship. These women are dealing with a lot and the book presents it well. I think everyone can find one (or more) characters to relate to as well. It is still a great beach or vacation book because it's so engrossing, I think most will tear through it in just a few days!

how does this book have over 4 stars? I feel like I must have read a different book. none of the characters were remotely likeable and the big reveal was just meh.

A combination of funny, poignant, and gut-wrenchingly sad, I am not sure exactly how I feel about this book. Following four friends who have grown apart in the 12 years since that one fateful summer. On the precipice of adulthood, Hannah, Blue, Maya, and Renee all have their lives dramatically altered. Told in flashbacks between that summer and present day, the women begin to reflect on how those events have shaped who they are today. There were problematic parts of this book - some issues were resolved and wrapped up too tidily for me, loose ends, and a couple of the characters are really unlikeable at many points - but then there were also parts that I absorbed wholly and fell into. Worth a read, for sure, but not the best beach read ever. 3.75/4

My first DNF in a long time! The synopsis and reviews had so much promise but the language was so clunky and hard to get through, over sentimental, indulgently sad, none of the drama or mystery I was hoping for. I skimmed to 60% to read the big mystery and it was anticlimactic. Sigh.

I have been fortunate and lucky enough to be on a roll of reading great books lately, and East Coast Girls is one of them! I read this book in eight days and really enjoyed every page. The characters were my favorite part of the book (aside from the outstanding writing of course), they were so realistic, relatable, and likeable. It was easy to picture them in my mind during all of the scenes, almost like I was watching a TV series of it happening while reading the subtitles. Actually, I would LOVE to see this story and these characters in a series! There is so much to this book and it all fits together so perfectly, I absolutely loved it!

Meh. I had very high expectations given Emily Henry’s rave reviews of this book. I was disappointed. The entire story line could have been avoided if the girls would have just gone to therapy 10 years ago when initial tragedy struck. It felt unrealistic and too simplistic for me. Not a fan.
