Deadly Heat by Cynthia Eden
Book #2 in Deadly
3.5 Stars
Warning: Contains sexually explicit scenes

Synopsis: Seeking revenge after her lover dies as a result of arson, firefighter, Lora Spade, calls in the FBI. Agent Kenton Lake is sent to capture the serial arsonist labeled “The Phoenix” and finds himself drawn to Lora’s courage and passion. But as they grow closer so does the killer, and the two find themselves in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a sadist who enjoys burning his victims.

Review: This is an enjoyable romantic thriller. The writing flows, the tension is tangible and the description true to life. I particularly enjoyed figuring out the villain's identity moments before he was revealed in the book.
However, while the main characters are likable and easy to identify with, their chemistry is not as vibrant as that of the couple in the first book: Monica and Luke. Neither is the tension in their relationship sufficiently developed.
Recommendation: An excellent read for lovers of romantic suspense. I will be continuing with the series and will be looking for other Cynthia Eden books as well.

Enjoyable enough. I definitely liked the suspense part more than romance. Random distraction for this book: How every time the hero pulled the heroine into a room and shut the door he was pushing her up against the wall for some hot 'n heavy sessions. Seriously, once or twice is fine but practically every time? Repetitive much?

Overall, I did enjoy this book.

Wow * 10 times.
Loved this one. As always Cynthia Eden never fails to amaze me.
Its a fast flowing, high tension romantic suspense.
Holy God!
The bad guy is creepy, deranged psycho.
The hero is solid, strong and competent.’
The heroine is just bad-ass.

Cynthia Eden writes twisted villains. The Deadly series isn't for the faint of heart. Usually, I don't read books that give the point of view of the killer but Eden does a good job keeping the parts in the killer's mind relatively short. Even so, those parts where uncomfortable and I got through them as quickly as possible.

The mystery plot is good, and I liked her character development, especially of Kenton, who we met in [b:Deadly Fear|7662223|Deadly Fear (Deadly, #1)|Cynthia Eden|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1302052850s/7662223.jpg|10253426]. Nora was a strong character as well, tough and tortured. I was fairly certain who the perp was by the middle of the book, but Eden kept the tension up and I was second guessing myself constantly. I like an author to be able to do that.

Seeing Monica and Luke again (also from Deadly Fear) was a bonus. In fact, Monica plays a significant part in this book. We see a little of Samantha at the end of the book as well. I believe book 3, [b:Deadly Lies|8671568|Deadly Lies (Deadly #3)|Cynthia Eden|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1280326009s/8671568.jpg|13543388] is her story.

DNF---I was looking forward to this one, but the narrator really put me off of it.

Firefighter and FBI agent try to bring down a serial arsonist, and the heat is not just from the 🔥. There's insta-lust but it worked for me here. They're both strong characters - he's attracted to her fierceness and bravery, and she to his cockiness and alpha male instincts. I rather liked the process from lust to real feelings, and that she takes the chance with him despite her fear of loss after her ex.

The romance is scorching hot, and with a raw, sexy edge, since they keep running into fires! He has no control around her and it's kinda hot. Steamy, but with a couple sex terms I was a bit 🧐 about. The whodunnit parts are solid and action-packed, and it was a definitely a good read for me.

Deadly Heat is the second installment in Cynthia Eden’s Deadly series, and here’s the thing you need to know about it. It has amazingly powerful, resilient and intelligent heroines, strong, supportive heroes, and really sadistic, evil villains. A romantic suspense should always be romantic, that’s a given. However, when the suspense is just as hot and just as dynamic as the romance, well then you have a winning combination. Cynthia Eden delivers on all counts.
