I’ve been putting off reading/listening this book till all the books in the series were released so that I could read them all in 1 go.

This was a great entrance to the saga and I really enjoyed getting back into Michael Sullivan’s books again. He really is a great author who is in touch with his fan base.

The story wraps up a bit quickly in this book (I know it’s to love to the next books and that’s why I was waiting for all books to be released before starting) so the readers would want to go onto the next book but if I had to wait a time to start book 2 it would drive me a bit insane.

I can only wait and see how this will unfold but have already gotten my favourite set of characters that I’ll be closely following on to the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed this first book in the series! I loved the Riyiria Revelations and this is delivering all the adventure, great rapport, strong female characters, bromance, and epic storytelling that I expected from Sullivan! Excited to continue reading!!! This series is going on my forever shelf right next to Riyiria!!!!

This is my first book of 2020, and a read overdue.

I will admit it was hard for me to get into the book, and this was my second attempt at it. I thought it was going to be that old familiar hero’s tale: the chosen one has all the power and the plot lines just fall into place. And it was.... except not quite.

Sullivan has a knack for leading you right up to a trope and then pulling off slight-of-hand narrative. Comfortable fantasy readers might be meandering casually through the narrative while thinking something predictable will happen and a refreshing change of pace is introduced.

A fair amount of intrigue and a few different characters to follow made this book a slow burn. It ended up being something I wanted to see the conclusion of, but nothing I felt like galloping through.

My rating I’ll say as a 3.5. I was entertained, but it took a while for my full attention to be captured. I’d like the read the next in the series, but even with the cliffhanger and the “reveal” at the end, I don’t find myself eager to rush out and get the next book.
