I’m fond of the possums; glad to see them. I liked the subplot with the baby rat creature, but was sorry to have no updates on Grandma, Thorn, or the situation in town.

I'm still fond of the characters and their path through the story, but right now it's the path that bothers me. "Big Mythology" + "Classic fantasy" meets Mickey and his friends from Disney was a cute idea at first, but I'm trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and there doesn't seem to be much awaiting. After 5 volumes that is a problem, we're beyond introductions.

The Rat Creatures are terribly incompetent too, to the point of annoyance (a bunch of animal kiddies jumping around can bother them enough to free their prisoners?). I've yet to see ONE reason to take them seriously as a threat.

But it's an okay volume that I enjoyed well enough. Now back to Phoney who irritates me to no end...maybe volume 6 is the one to redeem him? Or will it all just come together at the end? Guess we'll find soon enough...

I love this series so much. It's just so adorable and an interesting world. The characters are cute and funny.

Cousins encounter a large cat they think will help them and their little animal friends. Instead, it is the rat creatures who offer the most help.

This was a smaller story. It actually felt kind of lame. And really didn't move the story along. It almost gave some backstory, but then mostly dodged. But it wasn't actually bad. It was a cutesy little adventure and definitely not my thing.
