quite a satisfying end that also leaves room for more (perhaps?) or interpretation :)

I feel so disappointed, this was such a 5 star read for me up until the end I just wish there was at least one chapter of a resolution of Wenzhi realising who he is and what happened and that she chose him! And a kiss at least??? Just so sad.
Also, Liwei didn’t deserve to be treated so poorly and although I liked Wenzhi we had barely any interactions of them together, it made more sense for her to be with Liwei.

This book did not blow me away, though I enjoyed it and have so much love for the characters it just didn’t have the plot and adventure I was looking for. HOWEVER, I balled my eyes out at the ending, the last 20% of the book I could not stop crying. Wanting Xingyin to have her happy ending haunted me and I had to power through the tears to find out if she gets hers.

The last several chapters were the perfect way to end the book.  Sue Lynn Tan does an amazing job depicting the lives of the immortals with the ambiguity of time.  She also does an amazing job showing how mortal life is precious and love is messy and complicated and hard, but oh so worth it.

the first book in this series was a beautiful blend of a heroines coming of age and a SUB PLOT romance that enhanced the story. the end was perfect. there was no cliffhanger. and thus, there was no reason for a second book. everything that happened in this book, felt to me that it undermined the story and the loss and stakes of the first book. the romance was repetitive, and bringing back a character who had done wrong only to end up being the main love interest in the end AFTER killing him off. the last three chapters should have been a three page prologue at most. this just ruined the heroine for me, and turned her into an indecisive, whiny, woe-is-me who moped around in self hatred when at the end of the first book she was powerful and independent and yet still able to get a happy ending with her love… only to throw him away in this book. i really just kept waiting for this book to end, which is so unfortunate considering how much i loved the first one.
