The Last Wicked Scoundrel by Lorraine Heath

This would have worked far better as a sub-plot of the other four in the series. The story is clearly begun in the first, In Bed with the Devil, and it could have developed nicely through the others. As a stand alone, the story felt rushed and the plot was simplistic. The characters were undeveloped. Beyond his height and angelic, blond hair, the protagonist has a profession but little personality and the longing that Heath creates so well in her other novels is absent here. Neither character is richly developed and it was not a satisfying read.

The Last Wicked Scoundrel
3 Star

Series note: This novella concludes the Scoundrels of St. James series and brings readers full circle to the results of the events presented in book #1. Consequently, it is recommended that the books be read in order.

The story focuses on Dr. William Graves, the last member of Feagan's gang, and Winnie, Duchess of Avendale. As this is a novella, events proceed at a rapid pace and readers are quickly immersed in the plot revolving around Winnie's fears of an unknown intruder. Nevertheless, there is some good character development in terms of William's past and Winnie's transition from an abused wife to a strong and confident woman.

In sum, this is a satisfying albeit rather short conclusion to the series. The story does continue in the spin-off series focusing on the various Scoundrel's children.

2.5 stars and it’s probably because I’m so underwhelmed by this story. For me, William had the most fascinating story. He’s doctor to the bloody queen, so I just expected more. What I got however was a short barely there story about Winnie’s not so dead husband continuing to be a dick to her before it was over.

Was it a good story? Sort of? I can’t say I hated it, but I definitely didn’t really care what happened and constantly wanted to skip stuff. Which is awful considering I love historical about widows with children, but there was legit one scene with the kid and it was like he didn’t really exist.

This had potential, and probably flopped for me because it was so short there couldn’t be any depth to it and nothing was really explored. Sad end to a great series honestly.

It's kinda disappointing to read about our previous book heroes gaslighting Winnie for most of this

Not my favorite. I had to read it, because I wanted to know what happened with William Graves. He deserved a complete story like the rest of the guys.
