God damn this book was good! It’s everything I’ve been craving in a story and more. One of the first times I’ve ever been surprised by a twist! I’ll be listening to more from this author asap

My own guest list (for a near-perfect story):
1. characters to sympathize with
2. characters to hate
3. a good irish storm to set the mood
4. wedding drama
5. family secrets
6. multiple mysteries entangled into each other
7. a small amount of spice and scandal
8. a timeline and flashbacks that are easy as pie (or wedding cake?) to follow

Check out the content warnings before picking this one up but definitely give it a chance

Having read “The Club” by Ellery Lloyd recently (another Reese Book Club read) this book really just highlights some of the reuse of tropes and stories.

Multiple perspective event set on an island where everybody has secrets from each other and mysteries may be unveiled on the night of a big event and a murder victim that isn’t revealed until the very end?!

Literally just described both books for ya.

Was it an enjoyable read? Sure to start. But quickly it became clear that very few of the characters were likeable and actually seemed to hate each other. That sort of story gets me to tune out as “why are they putting up with each other?!”  The author notes at the end try to describe them as “characters we hate to love” but I felt none of that.

A fast paced read that had a predictable (to me) twist at the end  given my other readings.

I support women’s rights, but I also support women’s wrongs ✋🏻 I really enjoyed this audiobook. I got hooked in pretty quick, and gasped out loud a few times at the plot twists. It was entertaining and well-performed.

This was just an okay thriller. It's a book that I'd recommend to people that have never read one and want something light.

In the beginning, I was very bored. The story was slow. It took me a while to get used to the character's different POVs. I personally think the twist was decent. Nothing too crazy. It was plausible.
Spoiler I think we can all agree that the person that was going to die was going to be Will. I thought that was obvious, but I personally liked how Will connected to all of them better and how much of a terrible person he was. I sorta felt bad for Johnno. I didn't think he deserved to go down for Will's death.

I feel like if you have read one Lucy Foley book, you've read them all.. but this one was pretty fun. I liked the plot a lot, I enjoyed the female characters and the ending. However, it was way too much description of the island in my opinion. I understand the author was trying to convey how dark/scary/intimidating the venue was but it felt like half of the book was spent describing it. The other half was filled with the male characters talking about their time at school. It just seemed repetitive and I was ready for something else. Overall, it wasn't bad and as a mystery, it was enjoyable to unravel. Definitely not my favorite though.
