Quite insightful but also so hard to get through at times, as someone who has a close family member who struggles with addiction.

4.5 stars/ Wow. This book definitely surpassed my expectations. Originally I decided to read this book because I am a fan of the impaulsive podcast. I thought I had a general idea of what mikes past was like, he was a former drug addict, he had a few run ins with the cops, and eventually he turned his life around, but there is so much more to his story than that. This book takes you through his friendships, his lowest points, and his scariest moments. It explains why and how he got addicted, and why it was so hard for him to recover, and then eventually why he did recover. The things that mike has experienced in his life blew me away and surprised me, someone should definitely make a movie about him. This book has so much value beyond just sharing one mans story. It reminds us that most drug addicts are not bad people, they are just people who made bad decisions. They are people who we should have empathy for, and nobody should be looked down upon because of their addiction. Before reading this book I hardly knew anything about the opioid epidemic but I ended up learning so much from this book about how it started, who started it, and why it made such a huge impact on so many people so quickly. I would highly suggest listening to the audiobook version of this book on audible rather than reading it. The reason for this is because the author himself mike majlak is the one who reads it for the recording, nothing compares to hearing someone’s story from the person who actually experienced it themselves. At the end, It also contains letters written and read by some of the characters in the book which I found to be my favourite part because you can actually hear their voices and hear what they have to say about mike.

woah, -deep and raw (an innuendo i'm sure Mike would enjoy).
gonna recommend this book to the addicts in my life, the substance abuse client's i work with, and my behavioral health co-workers.
btw, f*ck big pharma.

Just like every other human being, I am not so keen on YouTuber books, but Mike is so much more than just a YouTuber - and as someone who has admired his and Logan’s growth over the last two or three years, I really enjoyed the book.

This is a geniunely good book, and slamming the YouTuber tag on it doesn’t do it justice.

plus i also love when shit hits rock bottom which it very clearly does here
