very cute still love casteel but he almost looses some of his bad boyness in this. Lots of highlights. Lots of funny moments. And gods I wanna know what’s next.
“he been a guard? Had he lived in Masadonia long? Did his horse have a name? That was my favorite question, because it was the first time Kieran had looked genuinely amused by the litany of questions Poppy came up with. “Name’s Pulus,” he’d answered, which was amusing to me for two reasons. That wasn’t the horse’s name. I wasn’t even sure Kieran knew what the steed was called. And Pulus was also the name of a lesser god, one who had served under the goddess Penellaphe and was known in our histories for asking a lot of questions.”
“But I wasn’t a good man. I was just hers.”
“bet you’re as sweet as honeydew.””
“She was sneaking off to the city library, which was disgustingly cute…”

Seriously? An entire retelling of book 1 but from Casteel’s perspective? About 3% of the book actually progressed the story forward. What a letdown.

I listened to the audio book and I have never felt more happy being surrounded by Cas and Kieran on all my daily adventures. So when do we get the next book with this bonded trio?

this was 621 pages of NOTHING. seriously, don't waste your time, there's only about 50 pages of legitimate plot. this was like reading bad fanfiction of book #1.

Literally… if you’ve read the first book (which chances are you have) you have read this book already too.
Super disappointing- the main character literally went to sleep and had unexpected guests… that’s it… for the whole. damn. book.
Obviously I’m going to read the next one that comes out but this was by far the worst book of the series and truly lacked any storyline and creativity.

I really tried to like it and keep on with the series, but I’m having the same trouble that keeps me from rereading books. A real bummer, I was really enjoying the characters and was excited to see where they went.

I’ve never been a fan of ancillary alternate POV rewrites of novels, and to do this as a book in the middle of a main series seems so lazy and just like a cheap cash grab. The only chapter worth reading was the final one. This is quite literally my favorite series I’ve read in the last 10 years, but to slog through this novel is a low point.

I really didn’t need to read the first book all over again. If I was getting something from casteel’s point of view I would have rather it been a skim of all that and the big events (poppy being taken etc).
But damn, that Casteel Da’Neer is my mans though.

Kinda slow bc it was a retelling from Cas's POV, but it was a nice recap..and the ending was very interesting and of course, a cliff hanger.

3.5 stars bc it was practically a whole recap in 600+ pages. a SHORT novella would have been better.
still even more in love with casteel though what’s new
