I wanted to like this book, but the characters felt poorly developed. The relationship between Sophia and Ross made me feel gross because of the unequal power dynamic. I did like the Nick Gentry character, and I wanted to learn more about him. This book reminded me of [b:The Highwayman|23723798|The Highwayman (Victorian Rebels, #1)|Kerrigan Byrne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1423771854l/23723798._SY75_.jpg|43333417].

Listen. Everyone says that Devil in Winter and Marrying Winterbourne are Kleypas' sexiest books. While I would definitely say that the romance in those two is better than the romance in Lady Sophia's Lover, this one is absolutely her sexiest. My mouth dropped open multiple times, and I've read a LOT of smutty historical romance.

That being said, I did not like Cannon very much. He was bossy and honestly kind of an ass. His main redeeming quality for me was his surprising creativity in the bedroom. I mean, come on,
Spoiler the chamber horse????
I was not expecting that one. Loved it though. So much.

I did predict that
Spoiler Gentry was her brother
though. Gave me big Victorian Rebels vibes, even though I'm pretty sure that was written after this book. Too lazy to look it up.

Anyways, absolutely one of my favorite reads of this year. Shout-out to LK for still surprising me after 20-some books. Can't wait for the next one!

Meet my Sir Ross:

Meet my Sophia:

I really enjoyed this book, I enjoyed it so much, that I couldn't put it down. I loved Sir Ross and Sophia. I expected a more frivolous heroine because of the synopsis. But instead we got a woman who was looking for retribution for her brother's death. I loved Ross and her's relationship. They were sweet with each other and I loved how in love Ross was with her.

Lisa Kleypas never fails me, that's for sure! I love her writing, she hooks you in and DOES NOT LET YOU GO.
I'm running out of Lisa Kleypas books...

Solid romance. I'm a Kleypas fan!
There was a predictable element here that maybe reduced my enjoyment a smidge, but overall, I appreciated the story and the romance. I'd return to this series again in future!
