A fascinating read, written stylistically, with some excellent turns of phrase.
Kaysen is not just an author but a philosopher with a lot of insights which, even by the standards of 2024, I can share in. Though the conclusions are somewhat singluar, as appropriate for the nature of the book, she provides enough 'blank space' to allow the reader to gleem what they need or want. This, she is aware of.
Amazing read and a companion for the movie (which did take some liberties).

girl interrupted by her music made me want to cry.
i felt i read this book too fast and will definitely come back to take my time. This book deserves to be to some extent completely understood at our own understandings of our lives. I guess what i’m saying is your experience with mental illnesses within yourself or with the people in your life really all come together once you read this book.

I had rewatched the movie recently and found myself kind of annoyed by the ending. I'm glad I finally got around to reading, it cleared some things up for me. People sure do take liberties with others' actual lives!!!!

This is a true account of of the author's experience in a mental hospital in the late sixties outside Boston. She reflects on her experience as a teenager being sent to the hospital without warning and discovers her actual diagnosis and notes 25 years later. it's thoughtful and well-written. Will make you think about what our society does and does not tolerate for men v women.
