This book is fine, I just feel like... it doesn’t add anything to the genre. It’s pitched squarely at the upper-middle class. Do they exist anymore? I guess so, because this book sold out. My lasting impression is one of vagueness. There were no lists of things to discard, but generous reminders that “you may have two of these... do you really need two?” I don’t have a family room. I don’t have a yard or garage. More talk of goals (like most of these books). And the goals were sweet: Adopt from overseas or start an online craft business. It’s fine, just fine, but it just didn’t wrestle with anything deeper than the rich having too much.

Appreciated the message but...obvious advice? Take everything out and trash/donate/organize? Plus, reading as someone who doesn't have a home office, basement, laundry room, guest room, playroom, or garage (these have their own chapters), and already lives in a small space, I guess I was not the target audience.

Honestly, this is probably one of my favorite books. This has helped shift my mindset on how I view my home. I’m such a sentimental person, which means that I often accumulate things because of memories attached or who things came from (which is fine! But I’ve recognized there’s truly no need for a lot of what I have).

This book isn’t the trendy “minimalism” you find on pinterest and all the things, but moreso talks about minimalism in a light that is meant for you to get the most out of your home and life, rather than for the aesthetic. This book is really encouraging and much of what Becker talks about I now want to implement into my own home. Becker also has a really nice style of writing that makes reading an informational book like this really easy. Highly recommend

Nothing revolutionary in here and Becker definitely rambles, but adding back a star because it was easy to listen to while working.

Listened on audiobook.

I don’t think audiobook was the best medium to read this. I also don’t think I was the target audience. It definitely had some helpful advice.
