I LOVE this series, and this book was no exception! Super exciting, amazing descriptions, complicated characters and interweaving storylines! I’m very excited to read the next (and sadly, the final) installment in the quartet. As soon as the English translation is finished, I will gobble it up like I did with this one. Awesome read!

One of my biggest issues with the previous two books was that Ophelia’s motivation felt all over the place and what makes her “her” felt muddled. This book, by its inherent design of false identities in a strange land, answers my questions while propelling the consequences of the first two books.

In The Memory of Babel, I enjoyed getting to know the ark of Babel and its contrasts and similarities to the other two arks we got to explore so far. The new characters were just as alive as the protagonists and I was invested in all that was going on.
SpoilerI especially love that Thorn and Ophelia start to open up their hearts to one another (FINALLY, even though that doesn’t start until the last 150 pages or so).

My biggest gripe with the book was that none of the major questions were getting answered until the final act. I understand that the foreshadowing is solid (looking back) but it's easy to feel exhausted waiting for answers when very little is given away in the first 200 pages.

If you were invested in the world of the arks from the previous two books, and want to watch Ophelia start to know herself and what she wants clearer, The Memory of Babel is a must-read!! I, personally, am excited to get my hands on Book 4.

I started reading this having expectations set by the knowledge that someone, the person <3 who gifted me the books, considered this to be their least favorite book of the series, and found it somehow boring, dragging. This was NOT the case for me! The setting, Babel, the memorial and the activities were fascinating to me! There are so many grounds for world-building in this series, so much could be explored.
SpoilerI am actually very concerned about “God” having taken the form of Renard and gained access to Arc en Terre… and what about Victoria?? She can’t get back to the Other Victoria!?
I am proud of Ofelia for her determination and strength in enduring what she has. Although it unnerved me a bit that she put up with the abuse of the others without fighting back (not that she could do much in every single situation) or at least acknowledging how unfair and wrong it was.

Also, i am not entirely sure how I feel about how the relationship between Ofelia and Thorn has been handled… it’s weird, they are “weird”, mainly Thorn… I’d say that his character and demeanor are quite unlikable, however for some reason I can understand where he’s coming from and somehow I don’t really dislike him?? and I’d like to see how Ofelia and Thorn’s relationship develops.
