This was my first novel by Hepworth. I thought it started off really good, but then it fell flat. Two sisters are coming to terms that their dad is moving on with a woman their age after their mom has suffered for years with dementia. It starts at the wedding and someone leaving on a stretcher. There are a lot of secrets in this novel. This is told by the three women’s POV. Each woman has their own pretty serious issues that they are trying to navigate while the original storyline is going on. There are some TW such as domestic abuse, including gaslighting, eating disorders, alcoholism and sexual assault. With all that said the ending is what did it for me. These were some heavy topics that she touched on and I think that they were just kinda there. Then what happened at the end, a huge part of the story line, (which should be life changing) was an afterthought. I didn’t really see the thriller part of it. Over all I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

No one loves the idea of their dad with a much younger woman, much less when their mom has debilitating dementia.

The Younger Wife is the third Sally Hepworth book that I have had the pleasure to read and I look forward to many more. This is a family drama with a difference. There are five main characters: Stephen, a surgeon in his sixties who is married to Pam, who has dementia; Heather, a woman in her thirties, who is engaged to Stephen; Tully and Rachel, the daughters of Stephen and Pam, who are learning to face the fact that their father is marrying someone who is the same age as them. I know this sounds like a soap opera but the story develops into something that the reader will not see coming. There is a huge secret in this novel! The Younger Wife has a tight and tense plot. The characters are so well-drawn that the reader feels like they know them. The second half of the book wavers back and forth between drama and suspenseful mystery. The ending is a stunner. If you enjoy reading family dramas with a terrific cast of characters and a great deal of tension, this one is for you. Sally Hepworth has done it again. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I say it with each new release: Sally Hepworth has created her own genre. Family dynamics, twisty mysteries, and infused with bits of humor (have you seen her instagram? She’s so funny!). I already can’t wait to see what family dynamic she’ll explore with her next book!
The Younger Wife centers on The Husband, Stephen, The Former Wife, Pamela, The Daughters, Tully and Rachel, and, of course, the new wife, “The Younger Wife,” Heather.
Pamela has dementia and is in a nursing home. She attends a wedding in the shocking opening scene. Someone gets hurt. By whom and why?
The daughters and Heather narrate the rather ambiguous, entertaining, and tense story that kept me guessing. It’s a clever, juicy page-turner, and I loved it! I’m ready to line up for The Soulmate!

I didn’t love this. I didn’t feel there was much suspense, and I wasn’t that invested in the story line.
