Let me tell you a story.

I bought this book 3 times. I would start it and stop because I didnt feel like I knew what was going on. I wouldnt even remember that I owned it.

Finally, i was bound and determined to finish the book. I was at about page 80 and I went on goodreads and someone ( lots of someones) said to listen to it on audio. I did.
Omg, omg it was amazing. Finally, the audio was to slow for me and I went back to the book. I loved it.

So long story short, dont give up if your reading the physical book version. I promise the payoff is amazing.

If your wondering why I didnt give up in the book, I just happen to love the authors other books so I kept going.

So glad I did.

I was super interested in reading something else by Stephanie Meyer that is very different from what she normally writes. The first 100 pages was just info Dump and I found it so hard to get through. I started listening to it on audio and it started to pick up for me. I began to like the characters and I was curious to see what would happen. I liked it actually. I did end up reading some more physically and switching on and off with the audio. I actually got super attached to the characters and I did like the conclusion a lot. I just think spy thrillers aren’t really my thing so I wasn’t that wowed by the story. Kind of read like an action-thriller movie. It was pretty solid, but I would never reread this.

3.5 stars. Listen, friends, I know you are judging me, but Stephenie Meyer is my guilty pleasure author. I realize her books are full of cheese. BUT...in The Chemist, a woman tortures people for the government but actually has a heart of gold and only needs to find love?! Come on! That is the kind of stuff that "beach reads" are made of! Good job, Steph. ;)

First question, this was a Stephenie Meyer book? Wait what?

Initially when I saw this book I damn near had a freak out in the store. Imagine me trying not to cause a scene while screaming "No way! A new Stephanie Meyer book!!" in my head. I picked the book up and read the back. Hmm, okay not usually my type of book but I thought the exact same about “The Host/Stephenie Meyer" and I've read that book over 9 times already. So I bought it.

So typical me, I want to dive right in. That was when I realized that this book was different from the rest of her novels. I couldn't do it. I tried forcing myself through the first couple chapters and I just couldn't do it.

*almost a year later*

I picked up the book enthusiastically promising myself I would finish it and guess what, I did it!

My second attempt was much more pleasant. It wasn’t a book I rushed through or needed to finish. I read it bit by bit, night by night. Even if this book was isn’t usually a book I’d pick up, I still found the book enjoyable but nowhere near as good as “The Host/Stephenie Meyer” or even as good as “Twilight/Stephenie Meyer” and it’s sequels.

The aspect of a chemist used as an interrogator was new but quite interesting for me. It was neither a thrilling nor complete waste of time. There was some pretty good action scenes and plot twists throughout the book.

I may not be this books biggest fan but it sure might be someone else’s cup of tea. I will still be reading all Stephenie Meyer’s books, hopefully there is more to come!

this is by no means a good book.it stretches belief to it's limit multiple times and revolves around an unearned love story between a boring blond 6ft something nerdy guy and a 5ft something brunette assassin. but i enjoyed the heck out of this! the dialogue was smooth and believable and the stakes kept you at the edge of your seat. unfortunately a dull safe predictable ending further contributes to this books mediocrity.

When I started reading The Chemist, I had my reservations. Would Stephenie Meyer be able to pull it off? I have to admit, I was more than pleasantly surprised! It took a couple chapters to really draw me in, but once I was in I was hooked. I NEEDED to know what was going to happen. Just one more chapter! I came to really care about all of the characters (especially the dogs). I definitely recommend this to people who love Stephenie Meyer's other books. An easy but engaging read.
