This one felt slower and fluffed instead of getting to the meat of things. The first book was a month, second a month, and this one was about 3 weeks I think? It is more political and more scheming involved, but I wish we got to see her magic improving more.
Also that cliffhanger is just mean.

That ending shocked me! I’m intrigued to continue the series even more. I really enjoyed this book, not a 5 star read though because this book didn’t hit me like a 5 star usually will.

Eva Chase is one of those authors I really really admire. I know we all complain about George Martin because it takes almost an eternity before he has his next Game of Thrones book ready, but the other side of the spectrum exists too. Chase is releasing almost (not entirely, but almost) a book a month. And yes, these books are amazing. They have great plots, great characters and detailed and complicated worlds and magic systems. I was therefore really excited to continue this series today.

What I really loved about this series is the pace. I can imagine that for some people these books are a little too slow, but I love how the author gives the characters and the plot the room to develop and grow. Although the plot is clearly becoming more and more political there is still enough time for relationship building. Not only between the heroine and her guys, but also between the three guys involved.

I also love how well the communication between the characters in this book is. Yes, there is this one case where information is witheld, but it was easy to understand why, but in most cases characters hear or learn something and communicate about it right away. Even if they need to be afraid not to be believed, even if they have no idea what they heard or saw exactly. And even though it shows the limits of these characters, it most of all shows their intelligence.

And they need that intelligence. The antagonist in this book, I love how there is a new one introduced every book even though it's clearly one big storyline, is very clever. So, our heroine and her heroes need to be too to beat him. And I loved how the only way they eventually could beat him was working together, communicating and anticipating. I also loved how it involved taking risks and how the heroes were slowly letting the heroine fight with them.

The last line was brilliant, and to be expected of course, and I can't wait to read the next book!

Again with the recaps! This is NOT necessary. Nobody is picking up the 3rd book before reading the 1st & 2nd. We know all this information. Stop being repetitive for the sake of a higher word count. Honestly I wanted to DNF only 2 pages in because of this, and it went on for several chapters. As much as I love this story, I had to take away a star for this issue alone. And for the love of fae, find a different adjective to replace brawny. Replace baritone, niggle, ephemeral, and kitty-corner too while you’re at it. There are also a significant amount of typos in this one. And can we PLEASE stop making the female main character do stupid shit to further the plot??? There were 3 male main characters RIGHT THERE that could have been the ones to act foolish. Idk about other readers, but I prefer to actually like the lead female character whose life I am forced to experience through 1st person pov. Second-hand embarrassment is not enjoyable! And this was her second major offense. I initially took away another star for that, but the rest of the story is so good it was earned back. But seriously, let’s pretend just for a second that fae who are hundreds of years old might know better than an early twenties human. It’s giving Feyre Darling. The love between the characters is deep and believable, I’ll give it that. And we love a book with spice that also has a great story. If all the spicy scenes were removed the plot would still be very engaging and have readers so interested they’d beg for more. But please keep the spice, it is delicious! And finally, the unexpected twist at the end of this book is responsible for gaining back that last star. (Almost lost it again with the bonus chapter nonsense though.) I love a book that can surprise me! Although I’m a little nervous to see where this new development will lead…
