Keep em coming!
Well this was an addicting read. Love that character development and suspense around every corner. God damn good writing and I'm so excited for more.

When I first discovered Marko Kloos it was just as he was essentially wrapping up his first series (although it seems there will be more of that) and I could gobble the whole thing up like binge watching on Netflix. He is so good at creating human beings in plausible worlds that are fantastical. And so I devoured this book in two days, which means I have to wait around a year or so to find out what happens next. Not fair!

Picks up a few months after book 1, with light insurrection continuing on Gretia but most people still continuing with business as usual. that leaves you wondering "where do we go from here"?
Plenty more character development, plenty more political development. If you liked the first one, this one's even better.
Spoiler
Major escalation at the end of the bookPlenty more character development, plenty more political development. If you liked the first one, this one's even better.

We jump straight in with this sequel, so it got going straight away. The fact that I was familiar with the characters and the world building by now was a huge help. I enjoyed the sequel more than the first book. The end had me amped up and thrilled. I'm really excited to see what the third and final book has in store!
I was glad to see more of Solvig, although I still think we don't get enough chapters from her POV. The other POVs grew on me too and I no longer minded whom we were following along in each chapter.
We had some light shedded on the mysterious conflicts that took place in this book and its predecessor. This side of things is still quite slow which makes me hope the eventual revelation is well worth it. Otherwise it might lack on the satisfaction factor for me. Its been two books! It better be good.
Will be jumping straight into the sequel asap!

Do yourself a favour, and wait until June 2021 to start this. Or, fine, don't listen to me (no one does), go ahead, start it now and suffer for a year wondering what happens next in a story that only starts taking off at the end of this book. This is unequivocally Act 2 of a three act show. Like the last book, we're still seeing a lot of set up, but I found I continued to find it all intensely compelling. The four parallel stories that make up the books so far are interesting in themselves but also intersect with and fold into each other in a way that really drew my full attention. You get different pieces of a much larger mystery added by the four characters, and I'd really like to get to the bottom of said mystery. Sigh. I guess I'll be rereading these in April 2020 in anticipation of book 3.
