I can already tell that I’m going to be hooked on this series and it’s not even finished yet 😭 I love the King Midas aspect of it and the creativity of the characters, I’ve never read anything like this before.

It takes awhile for anything to happen, most of which happens at the end. Waiting so long for the action and then immediately left with a cliff hanger was either brilliant or frustrating.

I would give this a 3 because most of the book was boring and I was waiting for something to happen, but my interest was incredibly piqued with the introduction of a specific character, so now I'm compelled to read the next book in the series. However, the story line and details are kind of all over the place, with new random things happening all the time. Annoying, but hopefully it gets better in the next one.

I was not very impressed when starting this book, and to be honest that didn’t change. I liked the creativity and world building that went into the set and the writing style. But the plot left a bit to be desired and I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of rape and sexual abuse scenes. I was frustrated with the lack of badassness in the heroine, especially when there was so much potential for some serious ass kickery.

However, I think this series will be like From Blood and Ash: originally frustrating because of how gross and uncomfortable the original setting was, but once the character hits a certain point in development the story gets really good (hint hint I am halfway through the second book and it does in fact get much better and much more interesting). I would recommend reading this book and pushing through the uncomfort (it goes by fast), because it seemed like this book was setting the scene for the other two, where the action really happens.
