I really enjoyed this book, it wasn't a fast past action sort of book but it was good and the ending was rather unexpected.

After the past events all Kaylee really wants is to be normal. She wants to sneak into clubs with her best friend and just have fun. That isn't possible for Kaylee. Not with her 'panic attacks'. Soon Kaylee is going to find out that her episodes aren't what she thinks. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I was bit surprised at how much I truly enjoyed this book. I had put off reading it for a while because I wanted to read the e-book prequel first and I really don't like reading at the computer. But I finally gave in and read both.

What a great start to a new series. In a genre full of every paranormal/supernatural beasts and/or creatures you could think of Rachel Vincent has created something truly unique. Bean Sidhes or Banshees are something that hasn't been done before. Really who would think you could pull off a book about Bean Sidhes? Rachel Vincent did!

This book is full of mystery and romance. Nash is a great character and from the first moment he stepping into Kaylee's life you love him. The chemistry between them is wonderfully done. How can you deny there passion for each other. Kaylee is a very likable main character. She's a little naive but really that's not her fault.

Overall this is a great start to a new YA series. It stands out among all the others. I'm very much looking forward to My Soul to Save.

I read the first book in Rachel Vincent’s urban fantasy series, “Shifters” a few years ago. I was not impressed, nor did I feel the urge to give it another try. But when I found out she’d written an urban fantasy YA series from friends on Goodreads, I figured, why not?

Kaylee Cavanaugh is a junior in high school who has felt the urge to scream uncontrollably on a few occasions, which she believes are panic attacks. Living with her seemingly oblivious aunt and uncle and her popular cousin, she feels like a total outcast. That is, until she bumps into Nash Hudson during a night out with her friend Emma at a dance club. It is there, on possibly the best night of her life that she feels the urge to scream again. She knows the girl gyrating on the dance floor is going to die. She can feel it in her body, in her soul and most importantly, in her lungs. When she confesses this to Nash, he doesn’t freak out. He doesn’t call her a loser. He not only believes her but helps her keep her cool. What follows is Kaylee’s quest to find out what exactly she is and what that means for her future.

While this book didn’t knock my socks off, I did enjoy it to a certain extent. It was fascinating discovering about Kaylee’s origins. I enjoyed reading about her aunt, uncle, cousin and father. In the beginning, they seem like the typical family but you quickly learn that there is a lot more beneath the surface. Kaylee and Nash’s investigation into how & why their classmates were dying had me on the edge of my seat. I do wish that there was more time spent on the Irish folklore & that Nash wasn’t always so quick to come to the rescue. I was also a little disconcerted by how quickly his and Kaylee’s relationship progressed. There was an explanation as to why but I still felt like I got whiplash from Insta-love.

Aside from that, my biggest issue was with Kaylee herself. She was not a character I liked being stuck in the head of. For someone to have gone through what she did-there’s a stay at a mental hospital in her past, among other things-she came off as a petulant child. It seemed like she was stuck on two settings: irate and confused. When she didn’t get her way, she had a fit, yelling and glaring all over the place. When the people who loved her warned her about things, she not only ignored their advice but accused them of hiding things from her and not caring enough about the innocent. To be honest, I’d hide things from her too since all she did was halfway listen and run off with the information like Super Girl Gone Emo. There were way too many times while reading this book that I wanted to smack the crap out of Kaylee for thinking she could handle things she had no real understanding of. She definitely brought this book down a few grades.

Overall, I thought this was a decent YA novel. The ending was amazing. I totally did not see those new developments coming. Kaylee has the potential to be a great heroine if she would just shut the hell up and listen. If she manages to accomplish that, the places her revelations about herself could take her could make this series very entertaining.

My Soul to take is the first installement of the Soul Screamers Series and My God what an amazing read. I devoured this book in about 10 hours. If I didn't have to eat, look after my son and have toilet breaks (lol) I would have probably finished it alot quicker. It was so addictive and totally different it just gripped my imagination and refused to let go.

The story is different to anything I have read before as it about Banshee or Bean Sidhe as its spelt in the book. I was wary at first When I first heard about this book. However, after reading so many positive reviews and I was excited and had high hope and was not disappointed at all.

My Soul to Take is about a girl called Kaylee who has "panic attacks". However, they aren't panic attacks they are premonition when she knows someone is going to die. (Not really a spoiler as this is in the description). Kaylee thinks she is going crazy and everything slowly unravels and secrets and revealed. And in the processed Kaylee falls in love with Nash, who isn't who he seems.

There are a few really great and unexpected twists and turns I truely never seen coming and I am really looking forward to the next installement.

Also in the back of the UK edition we have a wonderful and very interesting exclusive: Netherworld Surival Guide which has description of some of the things found in Netherworld

This is my first Rachel Vincent novel and I look forward to reading more of her novels.

I had no idea what to expect from this book. There were a few things going around about it and it received good reviews, so that is why I decided to give it a try.

You start off with Kaylee and soon Nash appears in the picture. It seemed a bit odd that he would fall for her right away. As you continue on you find yourself wondering what is really going on. The book will capture your attention and you won't realize it until you have to put the book down. Kaylee has to find out what is happening to her classmates and you'll soon find yourself getting into the mystery too.

The characters are different and play off each other nicely. I don't think they are extremely unique, but they work for this book. I didn't have a favorite character in this book though because you don't find too much detail or information of their lives.

Overall it was a fun and interesting read. I will continue on with the series and hopefully the characters will be more developed.

Re-reading in 2022 and wow. It's weird because I still really liked the story, but I definitely see my age influencing my opinions of characters. Still enjoyable, only taking 1 star off because based on my previous review below, I probably shouldn't have given it 4 stars to begin with.

I absolutely loved the premise of this book. I honestly didn't expect the plot to go in the direction it did.

So, to start, I love the murder mystery feel it gives. Who's killing these girls? What did Kaylee's uncle mean by "living on borrowed time"? What the heck is a bean sidhe? Let me tell you right now, I am not pronouncing it correctly at all.

The characters are unique and mysterious in a way, and the use of comedic relief is perfect. I absolutely love Tod, and I really hope he is in the sequel because he's just fabulous. He's sarcastic and annoying, but he's also intense and you can already tell that he likes Kaylee which is awesome because I'm always up for a love triangle that makes me want to tear my heart in two.

Nash is actually not my favorite. I think he is kind of needy, in a very subtle way.

Kaylee is great, but she needs to give her father some credit. The way she disobeys him and continues to get involved in reaper business is not okay. I don't like her attitude.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book, and I'm hoping that the rest of the series is just as enjoyable.

Okay how to begin this review. The book was pretty good. It was definitely unique and something new I have never read about. I like how the book began right away and was full of a bunch of things happening. I liked Kaylie she was okay and I like how helpful Nash was to her. I loved how he had those swirling eyes changing colors and I knew he had to know what was going on with Kaylie I had a feeling about. I think overall the book was pretty good but it wasn’t wonderful.

I definitely wanted to know what happened and was anxious to find out but I haven’t decided if I want to continue reading the series. I really like Tod I think he was my favorite character he was funny and I like how he was brooding in a way. I think this series has a lot of potential so I might continue it but we will see. There were only two things that bothered me. One I hated that Kaylie was insecure, she didn’t feel worthy of Nash, I have always liked those strong heroine. Not that she wasn’t but she was a bit ehhh. Secondly I figured out what the borrowed time meant like really early on and Kaylie didn’t figure it out till her father tol her. I mean come on!! But still pretty good not too many complaints. I think it’s different and interesting; it’s just not one of those books that scream MUST READ!!!!
