3.5 stars. Didn’t like any of the characters, didn’t really like the plot, kinda liked the juicy secrets and drama & that’s the only reason I stuck with it. It was easy to read and entertaining enough.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this book because it reminded me so much of a futuristic Gossip Girl story. And I love Gossip Girl! I like how this story started with the end: a girl falling off the 1000th floor on the Tower. I like the mystery behind it and how we don't know who it is at the beginning.

I loved the 5 main characters that the story is told from:

Avery - was genetically made to be perfect and she hates it.

Leda - has a secret addiction.

Rylin - mother died and she has to take care of her and her little sister.

Eris - her life just falls apart throughout the story.

Watt - a genius who gets hired to spy on one of the upper level girls.

They are all so different yet they bring so much to the story. A lot of which could be spoilerific. So, there isn't a whole lot to say about them or the plot without giving anything away.

I loved every complication that was within this story: love, betrayal, backstabbing, secrets, and all those typical drama you would get in the everyday life. You really just gotta go in blind with this one. And I hope you liked it as much as I did! :)

I think this is a cute/fun book! At first I thought that it would stay in order of which perspective to share next but after a while I felt annoyed that it was like Avery's story, then Leda, then Avery, then Leda... it was like... MOVE ON! Haha I want to hear about Rylin!

I'm totally rooting for Rylin and Cord. They're my favorite. Avery and Atlas, still way too weird and totally messed up for my liking but that makes a story.

I wonder if Leda will change her threats/feelings about Eris and their friends after she finds out the truth. I'm also really heartbroken for Mariel... so sad :(

Good travel book! Future NY youth doing crazy things in a really excellently described tower. Romance, tech, mystery, all the good things

I loved this book but couldn’t of the police just tested eris’s alcohol level or whatever, I know there’s a test for these types of things.

Update: When I stumbled upon this book in Target, I loved the cover and its writing. Now, that I have considered all the thing, I’m sad that the book is not as great as I thought it was. I’m annoyed I spent so much time obsessing over this book when it was pretty problematic. This book had a lot of potential. It had much representation & for me it was one of the few times I saw a Asian character in a book after years of nonexistent diversity. But she was just given a bland romance plot. I’m still really sad they killed off Eris, she was a really good character.

Hot mess of soap opera characters. Way too many characters with full stories and not enough background of the tower or the future setting itself. All that was missing was a long lost twin. Gossip girl meets the future and unfortunately not in a good way.
