I received this book as an arc in exchange for my honest review. Overall I’d give it 3.5 stars, it was a good read, there was some good parts where I was captivated but there were a lot of parts were it just fell flat. I felt like there were too many tropes thrown in to the book, granted they’re all the tropes I typically love. The ending definitely leaves you intrigued. I think this series has potential and I’m looking forward to the next book!

Fantasy/fae/monsters/girl can talk to animals/royal intrigue/lady Godiva retelling/gods/betrothed/bodyguard/women are property/man hate/animal companion/talking horse/sad girl/journey thru a forest/one horse/forced proximity/dark/triangle
Interesting and unusual premise. I like her power to talk to animals. And her horse Mist is funny sometimes. I also enjoy the mouse.
Wolf/Basten is fine. Basically every thought he thinks is crass. But he’s Mostly decent. Protective and kind. He is very wishy-washy with his internal monologue about whether his master will treat her well, and all the reasons he cant like Sabine. He tells her she will be safe with him, but then proceeds think of all the horrible bloody things they have done over the years, and so i find it hard to trust that. He has heightened smell, eyesight and hearing. He is also a big burly wall of muscle. Oh, i keep forgetting, he can smell purity on a female, lol. I wonder if he can smell that on males too. Funny, that isn’t mentioned. He has a sad and tragic backstory.
This book has a very loud voice that preaches man hate. Almost every man in the story is disgusting and scum. And only out for one thing.
The language reads much more self published than polished, and the steamy scenes are crass, heavy handed and jarring. The story as a whole has good bones, with the plot and premise, but the execution could use refinement and would benefit from more subtlety.
Im not sure i buy the so called love here.
The twist had me. I didn’t expect what happened.
As for the third act conflict, it was ok.
When we finally meet the lord/Rian, i must say, he is interesting. Initially i liked him ok. He is definitely playing some long games, and the ppl around him are very dangerous. He is interesting. Maybe a good guy, but maybe not.
The ending has me interested in the overall plot/intrigue, and I’m worried about wolf. If this had a more subtle and nuanced edit, it would have had a higher rating from me. Just my personal preference.
I will probably read the next book.

DNF at 30%. this book was.one big red flag. I am so sick of the virgin FMC trope while the MMC sleeps around and is a sex god. Also no way in hell is she riding a horse naked for 21 days and not suffering for it. NO WAY.
And the MMC is gross. Basically delivering her to a man he admits is abusive, but hey the guy will give her jewelry and clothes so he's a catch I guess.
And Sabine is so mad.one minute and trying to escape.and the next finds she just can't tear her eyes from him and finds him so hot. Gross
Woman, rethink your priorities.she could have ordered a flock of birds to peck his eyes out using her magic. Might have enjoyed the book more.

I’m obsessed with this book! I couldn’t put it down! I love fantasy with a more human aspect to it and this book did it perfect! I love me some Wolf!

This was an interesting book for me. I'm the one hand it felt like it dragged. Not a lot happened for most of the book besides Wolf's inner turmoil. I kept waiting for the action to kick in, or the book to just end.
On the other hand, I'm super interesting in the side plot about fae, the northern lands, and Sabine's history. So basically, it was a good book but not amazing. I don't know that I will start book two immediately but I will definitely will read it at some point in the nearish future.

Love the FMCs ability to communicate with wildlife. The romance is just odd but the story has my interest so I’m still looking forward to the second book.

He can smell virginity… somehow…
Honestly, the author isn’t a bad writer, but the MC really gave me the ick.
