This was a quick spicy read! It's a second-chance romance with a lot of drama! Some parts really felt like a telenovela. I liked our MC's but sometimes I wanted to smack Esmerelda lmao. She would have these intimate moments with Rodrigo then ruin it by saying off-the-wall shit like "Too bad I have to steal your job", then be confused when he gives her the cold shoulder. Like, girl! Why did you say that in the first place?! lmaoo But the spice was good and I got my happily ever after!

Tropes: Second Chance

Dang, what a banger.

Adriana can write a friggin' book.

The rich family drama? The smut? The longing? Perfection.

This is exactly what I want out of a category romance.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read from Adriana Herrera (and an essay in an Anthology “Black Love Matters”). I really love her voice as a writer. She is probably going to be an auto read author. This was a fun, soapy, steamy, quick romance. It you like telenovelas, this is right up your alley.

Make sure you have time to read this - it’s a quick, fun read, but most importantly, you will not want to put it down. At all.

Esmerelda and Rodrigo have a past - a past where everything blew up at just the wrong time. Now they are vying for the same position at Sambrano Studios and sparks of all varieties start to fly.

I loved both Esmerelda and Rodrigo. Esme was smart and strong and confident with just the right balance of insecurity to make her drive to succeed and concerns highly believable. I was on her side from the very beginning. As for Rodrigo - I’ll admit it took me a while to warm up to him, but as the story progressed, his personality and why he needed Esme in his life just made sense.

I just had a few personal quibbles - a few too-stereotypical secondary characters and a desire to see more of how this connection managed to last so long. It wasn’t enough to make too much of a dent in how much I enjoyed this novel. Throw in a bit of soap opera-style boardroom shenanigans and just the right amount of steam, and you end up with a breezy, smart romance to fill an afternoon.

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

This was fun but overall not memorable and that could be because I don’t read a lot of category romance. Everything felt a little too rushed but when dealing with the constraints of category it makes sense. I’ve lived Adriana Herrera’s historicals and will continue to pick up all her stuff. She always has a good message.

It's what you want a good romance to be.
