It just feels like something is missing in this series. I think it is trying to be too many things at once, so it ends up not being dark enough, or quirky enough, or easy-breezy enough but a hodge-podge. It feels like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Charmed have an annoying little sister who is trying to act like them but doesn't quite measure up. Snarky cat? Check. Raised among humans and didn't know you were a witch? Check. Gets advice from ghostly relatives? Check. Pursued by an evil dark force? Check. Inexplicably better at magic than almost everyone? Check. Uses magic badly in regular settings without being noticed? Check.

Winky remains my favorite character. Jill had not right to bully her sister into giving up her beanies.

This series is turning out to be a very cute. I really enjoyed seeing Jill develop her Witch side. The twist here got me, I didn't see this one. However I do feel like it jumped back and forth a lot. I understand her time is spent between two towns but in the same chapters she backs and forth and when she discovers something it cuts to another part before we know what she's thinking. I guess that's the mystery part.

This series is so light hearted and simple that it's been a pleasure to read over the last few days. I've been binging them at about 2 a day. There's not much to say about craft quality, though. Books 1-12 especially are quite rough and feel more like free writing at times than novels. Even so it's been fun to see the author improve as she goes and to see the cast of characters grow.

I still think this series is adorable and everything a pre-teen girl needs to pass time and foster an early love for reading much like Nancy Drew did for me and generations before me.

The first book provided background for the series and this second book builds upon that while a new mystery is solved. The early part of this book line-up summarized the first book.

The same main characters are still unnecessarily annoying and not endearing at all. Nothing will convince me that a grown woman (sister or not) would put up with the level of meddling that Kathy inflicts on Jill.

I still recommend this series for anyone who has a short amount of time and wants a light read.

Witch Is When Life Got Complicated is the second book in the series, and I enjoyed it much more than the first one. I felt like Jill was really trying to embrace her new witch heritage, and I loved learning about that. I also enjoyed the side characters, except for her sister. I can't stand her sister at all, she is beyond annoying. And now the previous cop that she seemed to hate, and he hated her, well now they are forced to spend more time together.

This book has very little on the romance side, which is fine, but I do hope that it comes into play a little more later on in the series. Other than that, I enjoyed the mystery, and I loved Jill. The humor in this story is awesome as well. I'm hooked and can't wait to read more.

Absolutely enjoying this series. The books are short and make for delightful reading. I love Jill and her witchy powers. Grandma is a riot. I’m just glad she’s not mine. And Drake and Jack. Two hit hunks for the girl that can’t get a date. Can’t wait to see where this goes.

This is the second book in the witch PI series.

I enjoyed the first book immensely, though it completely lacked for diversity (I don’t consider different supernaturals as diversity). This book was no different.

Although I’ve spotted a few loopholes and inconsistencies in the magic system, the plot was stronger in this book than in the first, and I appreciated the interplay of the supernatural characters more. The introduction of super sups is fun and might lead to some interesting plot lines as well.

HOWEVER, the MC’s sister (non-sup) is a horrid character and I can’t stand reading 90% of their interactions. She is a bully, and treats her sister like a vending machine of treats for her children. BeanieGate almost made me stop reading the book. And I get it. It’s supposed to be the older sister pushing her younger sister to expand out of her comfort zone, but literally EVERYTHING she does is a manipulation to get the MC to do something she doesn’t want to do. The MC doesn’t have consistent spine in standing up to her manipulators (Mrs. V isn’t much better, nor Winky), but the sister is the worst by far and makes me very frustrated.

I also can’t tell if this is HP fan fic. Lots of similarities.

This was entertaining, but it felt too scattered to really get engrossed in the story. It felt like there was large chunks of the story missing.

A Witch P.I. Mystery book 2

I laughed so hard my hubby came to see if I was OK!! Love these characters! Jill and her comments are wonderful. I solved one of the cases early on and was waiting for it to resolve in the story, but everything else was enjoyable.

I am not quite sure if my rating will stay a 3, but I just can't bring myself to rate it a 4. It was definitely better thab the first boom, but there are still many weaknesses. the one that drives me nuts is that it seems the author has several narrative strands and jumps between them very abruptly. It often feels very chopped off and not a flowing story. Not a fan (yet?), but the 2nd book was good enough for me to continue the series.
