Well, it wasn't great, but will continue on to the next one to see where the story goes.

I will admit that I was very frustrated with Violet throughout the book, due to both her selfishness and her general attitude. I admit, finding out that Phoenix was tampering with her hate (which was pretty obvious) made me feel slightly better, but she was still far too angry at Lincoln given the situation.

One thing I really appreciated was the simplicity and reality of the sex scene between her and Phoenix. It was well-written, not overdone, and gave just enough detail to satisfy the reader without making a huge deal of it. I really, really appreciated that she didn't dwell on her decision. I hate receiving so many messages about how life changing sex is. The only part that mentioned it was the angel who told her about giving her flesh or something. But we haven't had to dwell on it as of yet, which is refreshing.

Not my favorite by far and a little disappointing, but will have to see if the next one is any good. Not a big page turner either, unfortunately.

Quick summary: When Violet Eden accidentally discovers that she is part angel, part human, it is hard for her to believe. Especially when it comes from Lincoln, her friend that she likes. But as she soon begins to see the changes and learns more, she can't help but feel betrayed by Lincoln, and the fact that he never told her the truth beforehand. And that, they are partners, destined to fight exiled angels alongside others. But when Phoenix, an exiled angel enters Violet's life, she is drawn to him, and is soon caught up in a web of lies, and the battle between light and dark.

So when I first saw this book, it looked great! I was incredibly excited, however after finishing it, there were many aspects that disappointed me. Of course, Violet had every right to be hurt by the fact that Lincoln lied to her, but I feel she handled it horribly. She was very unreasonable, and took everything out on him. Throughout the book, Violet continued to be naive, jealous, and insecure. Then, Phoenix steps in, intriguing and mysterious as ever, and becomes of use to Violet by making herself feel better. And though she cared for Phoenix, she used him at times to make Lincoln jealous. Also, it was supposed to be a love triangle, but Lincoln's development was small. I felt like I barely knew him, and had a hard time seeing him as a true love interest for Violet, especially since she was mad at him majority of the time. With Phoenix, it made more sense because he was much more in the book. The concept was great though, and aside from all of that, the ending really made the book worth reading!

Also, I finished the rest of the series (however I believe there is a fifth coming out) and I truly loved it. So I suggest that you should just endure the first book, because the others were definitely addictive and amazing!

I love it. This is my favorite feel-good series, though it isn't necessarily the most well-written, and it does have a somewhat cheesy love story. The relationship between the protagonist and antagonist is amazing, though that's revealed later in the series (no spoilers!). Shirvington seems to be the queen of cliff-hangers, with each final sentence of each book giving me chills.

I know there will be people out there who don't like the love story, and if you don't, that's fine. I love it, and I know many others who do too. If you want this series to carry you away, it will, provided that you allow it to. I cried multiple times in Endless and Empower (the last two books of the series) and do every time I read them. The series is pretty unpredictable, but there are a couple plot-holes that could use filling (okay, only one, but there were multiple ways to avoid what happens... not that I care that much because of the ending, again, I won't spoil!).

Violet Eden has a father who has been distant since her mom died, a best friend, Stephanie who is a genius and a shopping master, and another good friend, Lincoln, who she has a huge crush on and trains with often. She soon finds out she's part of a warrior race that is part angel, part human, due to an angel imparting an essence upon her. In this book she has to decide whether to embrace that essence or not.

*SPOILERS... POSSIBLY*

The characters Shirvington creates are fantastically layered, and all fit together pretty well. Phoenix is probably the most layered of them all, and it's almost akin to Severus Snape from Harry Potter the way the reader can't predict which direction he'll go.

Overall, great book, great series. Read if you're willing to allow a somewhat cheesy plotline go and want some crazy dynamics between the Violet and the antagonist.

Loved it! Another great read to add to my library! I didn't want to put to the book down! There were too many things I was trying to unravel and find out the truth about. Some things I got right... others I was stumped on.

4.5 stars!

I was excited to read Embrace because I heard so much good things about it and I have to admit I wasn't disappointed! I love angels, I think they are my favorites among the YA paranormal creatures and this angels mythology is particularly convincing! (Not as much as Unearthly but far, far better than the Fallen series!)
I enjoyed the love triangle so much when finishing the book I didn't know which of Lincoln or Pheonix I liked the most.
It's a nice debut for the series and I am looking forward to read the next book!

LOVED this book, It sucked me in from page one! If you liked Hush, Hush, or Fallen, you will definitely like this one! :) I was intrigued by the world Jessica describes, and the characters were loveable/hateable and of course I wanted more! :) Her second book Entice comes out Sept 15th, and I am super excited that I received an ARC from her publisher. I will be reading it soon, and I for sure recommend this to any and all readers who love reading about angels...fantasy angels not real-life angel stories!

it was pretty good except me not liking the main character violet. I understand that she was hurted by linclon keeping secrets but she didn't need her anger consume her soo easy.
