I finally finished this book after slowly reading it on my phone during lunch breaks at work. I kind of forgot about it for a while there, and finally decided to finish it.
I liked it. I like vampires. I liked the post apocalyptic type world this was set in.
Definitely interested to read more.

This was fantastic. It started off really strong and was very captivating. I must admit, after Allie got separated from Kanin, the whole read I was anticipating for the moment that the two would reunite and continue with their shenanigans...so it was a bit disappointing to find Kanin so absent in the story as the book went on.

What did happen though was still interesting (however, note that I'm not often moved by romance so I didn't really care about Allie's love interest) and looking at the synopsis for book two, I understand why things had to play out the way they did regarding Kanin (and Allie). So I'm looking forward to reading book two and following Allie's journey as she goes back for Kanin and faces a whole new slew of conflicts.

2021 reread- this book is still fantastic, but I had forgotten the fact that this series is about an airborne virus caused pandemic, finding a cure, and vaccines. It may have hit a little too close to home these days.

Allison Sekemoto is probably one of the most kickass heroines to come around in a while. She starts this book as a vampire hater- surviving day to day by scavenging for food in the Fringe, the outskirts of a vampire ruled city. Then in a moment of desperation Allie makes a choice to become a vampire rather than die. Now she is faced with the challenge of learning to be immortal and coming to terms with the monster she has become. On her journey of self discovery Allie finds out who her real friends are, what is truly important and how to be a kick-ass vampire. I don't want to say more because I don't want to spoil anything. I also don't really know how to put it all into words without sounding like a babbling idiot. All I can say is that everyone needs to read this book!!!

The Immortal Rules is dark and creepy (Just a tip- don't read it late at night if you live by yourself.) but it is also fan-freaking-tastic. I loved every minute of this ride and can't wait to see where Julie takes us in the next book

This book has been on my TBR for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally got around to reading it. My attention was captured with the first chapter, and it didn't really let up throughout the story. There were some slow parts here and there, but even then, I was still interested in what was going on. One thing I really liked was that while Allison does become stronger, faster, etc. when she's changed, she doesn't automatically become a good fighter. She has to actually work at it, and she does make mistakes. I think she's shaping up to be great heroine, and I'm looking forward to seeing how she continues to grow in the next book!

I only have 2 reasons for giving this book a four instead of a five:

Reason #1 - I've noticed that the beginning of every book I've read by Kagawa has been slow and meagerly written. I found myself correcting her word choice at least once in every paragraph for the first 50 pages. She also repeats words quite frequently. But, after those first few pages, it's like she gets in a rhythm and her books always turn out AWESOME.

Reason #2 - The romance between Zeke and Allie was somewhat forced to me. It just didn't seem at all believable, and even though I was pulling for it from the time he was introduced until the end, I just didn't feel it when it finally happened.

Overall, amazing book. I can't wait for the sequel.

I have never read a book by Julia before though I do remember hearing her name before. I have meet many people who rave about her Iron Fey series ( a series now on my to read list). I started this book a little bit hesitantly I was worried that her book would be trapped in the black hole that many vampire novels have fallen into. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a typical vampire novel. The immortal Rules combines the topic of vampires with a Dystopian society.
Zeke is Allie's love interest though their romance is on the back burners the scenes were so cute. I really like the way Zeke acts he isn't the common bad boy you see in YA books recently. In fact he is a good guy who fights for what is right and is also a great fighter.
In all, The Immortal Rules is a great start to this trilogy. I can't wait for the next book to come out in 2013. Best part to me is the fact that Julia promised we get to see more Kanin in the second book I really am super excited to have Kanin back!

The world is so dark and kinda frightening. I really couldn't put this book down the story was so perfect with all of its action scenes a twists and turns. I absolutely love the characters(Kanin being my favorite!) The main character Allie is AMAZING! She kicks Ass with her awesome weapon(sorry not telling;) She also opens up as a vampire more than she ever did back when she was a human with only survival on her mind.

This is my first Dystopian novel so I have no reference point on how effective and well written the world is supposed to be. The Fringe and the vampire castle is written so well! I absolutely love it and it is so unique.

I haven't read this book since I was a teenager, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see that it's held up well upon a re-read as an adult. I appreciate the dynamic between Allie and Zeke - she's the one saving him, she's the brooding, sullen, morally grey love interest. It's a refreshing twist on the usual vampire trope. I like Allie's characterisation, she feels well fleshed out and authentic. Similarly, the world building is strong and effective, and I'm fond of this rendition of a dystopia. Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I'm keen to re-read the rest of the trilogy.

I enjoyed this take on vampires! I was going to continue with the series back when I finished this book, but the second book was stolen from me and now I forget most of the first book. So there’s that.
