this review is longgg overdue!

crazy how this was my first emily henry book and i have yet to write a review for this book!

it took me a while to finish this book or even start it because i just had a hard time going through the first section for some reason, as enjoyable as it was, it was definitely a difficult start, not because it was bad or anything, i just found the pacing to be a bit slow or idk! it just took me too long to get to the half point of the book and from the second half onwards, i just bulldozed through and ATE EVERYTHING UP! LMAOO

i think this is a good start to emily henry's bookography in my opinion because her other books are certainly better in terms of tropes, either that or i just don't really prefer the friends to lovers that much, but yes!

alex nilsen as a character, though he is a grown man who uses the snapchat dog filter and puppy face puppy face [i can't imagine calahan skogman doing a puppy face but i would love to see it], aside from that, he was a delightful male love interest who shows the delicate sides to masculinity, where he craves to be wanted not just for a quick one time thing, but someone who wants to settle and acts like it! his monologue of saying what he wanted in life and being disappointed that he'd just be poppy's any other vacation man made me cry because where are these wholesome men irl???

i couldn't truly connect with poppy's character since she and i are on DIFFERENT ends of the spectrum compared to how i was touched by january and harriet, but i appreciate her individuality and her humor! it was something i very much enjoyed reading through her perspective!

overall, the book was decent enough but i don't think it was emily henry's best work, especially compared to beach read (my personal fav), book lovers, and happy place!

TAKE NOTE: all of this is my own opinion, i am entitled to it LMAO! y'all can hate on beach read and love pwmov, but just take my words with a grain of salt.

i can't wait for funny story!

Emely Henry has a way of making you feel like you're the main character in her books. We're not perfect; we struggle to communicate how we feel, express our fears, and sometimes we give up and lose hope. But occasionally, we find it again. Happy endings aren't written for everyone, but it's inspiring to read about those who have them. It makes you believe that the possibility exists for you too. You just have to be brave enough to express your desires, even if they don't come true.

I didn't really enjoy this book. It felt a little to tropey for me. I only finished it so quickly because I just needed to see them get together. It was such a drag, but I needed to feel the satisfaction of them being together by the end of it. And even then, once it was over, I didn't feel very satisfied. I know most people rave about Emily Henry, but maybe this shouldn't have been my first Emily Henry read? I don't know why this one was such a slog for me.

Poppy and Alex are EVERYTHING. This is my first Emily Henry read but it will not be my last. These characters have so much chemistry and their intimacy is something that I will be thinking about for days. This probably one of if not the best friends-to-lovers I have read.

This book is told in dual timelines--roughly every other chapter is a previous summer vacation, contrasting with the current summer vacation. At first I wasn't a fan of this and thought I wouldn't like this book because of it but eventually I became so enamored with the development of these characters that I loved every part of them I could have. Poppy and Alex are so well fleshed-out, they have so many flaws and quirks and issues that they feel like real, lovable people. Not to mention this book is actually hilarious, I laughed out loud more times than I can count.

Don't mind me I will just be sitting here in awe of the way Henry managed to write chemistry so well, daydreaming about Alex for the rest of my life...

4.5/5 stars! Check out my playlist for Poppy and Alex here :)

Egyértelmű ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Imádtam ezt a könyvet. Alex és Poppy kapcsolata teljesen magával ragadott.
A múltbeli jeleneteket néha untam, de értem hogy miért ilyen a struktúrája a könyvnek.

Magamnak is 5 csillagot adok azért mert sikerült franciául elolvasnom a könyvet.
