What a great first book! I haven’t read too many books about Arabian mythology, but I think this book did a great job of explaining some key mythical creatures and lore. I’m also not generally a fan of books that are super heavy on political intrigue, but I LOVED it here. I also loved that the character development we saw in Nahri was a slow burn. While that can sometimes be annoying from an outside perspective, I’m expecting to see her really blossom into herself in the second book (especially given that ending?!). I’m excited for Nahri to come in with some plotting and conniving to get what she wants. All in all, I’m really excited to read the rest of this story. 4⭐️

Phew. I get the hype now. It did take me a while to get all the tribes and terminology straight in my head because I’m a bit dim but I got there in the end. Every chapter is interesting, every character is complex and has growth, and the world is so lush and complicated and magical. Can’t believe I slept on this series for so long!

hm. alrighty we've got some thoughts so letsgoooo.

generally, I think this book was good. I'm halfway through the third books and I can tell you that this book is just the beginning and its main role is to set the background for the next two books, it was a convincing starter!

« The plot »
now, I'm not gonna lie, I'm on the third book and I'm still unsure about the whole plot. maybe it was well explained and I just lack putting together 1+1 but It was so hard to keep track of which side did what to the other and then what happened to them and then-
