One of the least suspenseful mysteries I have ever read. Nicely written but no spark.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I got it as a random choice, to accompany me on walks, with no prior knowledge of the series of books. It was a great little whodunit with the enigmatic Hermes Diaktoros of Athens, the titular Greek Detective of this series of books. I enjoyed the twists and turns and the descriptions of life in small Greek towns in particular the descriptions of the food which filled me with pangs of desire to visit Greece and enjoy a meze in a kafenion, drink Greek coffee (apparently you can tell the future from the grinds) and watch the world go by.

I find this series a real hit and miss, some of them have been quite engaging, but this one was a big letdown, it was very similar in style to the other books, almost a carbon copy in some respects, you could almost tell what as she calls him "the fat man" was going to do at certain parts of the book.
This was in the end slightly diverting but mostly dull and the weakest entry in the series so far.

Do all the other books in the series suck as much as this one, or has the author become sloppy? Don't know; picked up this title by accident (a murder mystery, the cover said... NOPE) and now I don't feel like reading the rest. No redeeming features whatsoever.
