I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Awwww, that is practically all I can say about this book. This was just so much adorableness packed in one book.

Say hello to Herbie. Herbie just was born into this world, he is still a tiny tiny hedgehog. But he will soon be exploring the world, foraging, stumbling, and sleeping. We will go with him on his journey, the journey that his mom pushed him to.
I loved to see Herbie and I was cheering for him during first few pages of his journey, after that he seemed to be doing perfectly fine and awesome. He never had to be afraid of anything, or anybody, nature is taking care of him when he is in trouble.

I did have a big laugh though at the fact such a tiny little hedgehog could be lifted up in the air with just a leaf, but then again, it fits the magical air this book has.

The ending was really cute, yay for Herbie! Good job! You did it! cheers

The art was the other thing that was super super cute and that I really loved to see. I was just awwing at every page. The changing seasons are done really nice as well. From green grass, and green leaves, to brown leaves, and then snow.

All in all, this is one book I would recommend, it is cute, it is fluffy, it is fun!

We see Herbie come into the world and grow up to be old enough to go on a foraging adventure. The illustrations are great as is the story. This is a great book for those little tikes going to school (or leaving their parents) for the first time. Herbie is a bit hesitant to leave the nest but with his mother's assurances he sets off on an adventure. Perfect for the fall and winter - the pictures are great. A fun book to look through.

This is the story of Bernie: an extremely cute hedgehog! How cute? Look at this:

Bernie is all grown up and he has to find out food on his own. So he leaves his mother and goes off on an adventure!
I really enjoyed both the illustrations and the story!

I'm a little torn on this, between two and three stars. Three for the pictures, as those are important to picture books, but two stars for the message that it is ok to stay out overnight in a snowbank and be ok.

OK, I know that if you build a cave in a snow bank you can survive, and granted I have very little experience with snow, since I live in an area that hardly ever gets snow, but having the hedgehog sleep overnight in a snow bank that was shaped like a bear...that is so wrong on so many levels I just had to stop right there and reread that page. First, why would a hedgehog think that going to anything shaped like a bear would come out ok? Second, sleeping in a snow bank? Really?

The rest of the book is fine. Herbie finds half eaten apples, and has fun wondering around, and then goes home. Other than the snow, this would be a great book to teach free-range children to go out and have fun on their own. Just don't pick a bear shaped snowbank to sleep in, if you find you can't get home.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

The artwork is cute, and the layout is good. The story wasn't spectacular.

I can't review this properly as I'd like to. In fact, I'm a little unclear whether I'm allowed to review this at all, but I didn't see any directions concerning reviewing ARCs for Capstone so I'll just be super vague.

The only reason I requested this was because this is a hedgehog book. Due to that it features hedgehogs, it is thereby adorable. The illustrations are not particularly wonderful, but they are decent enough and some of them attain a fairly high level of cuteness. Additionally, the layout of the pages is quite nice. The story of the book is really very lackluster (but oddly relatable, as a senior in high school who'd much rather stay at home than go on adventures) and, being a kids book, takes several liberties with the behavior and abilities of both hedgehogs and natural phenomena, but I shan't dwell on that as A. complaining about logic in a children's picture book is terrible(and also something I am really good at) and B. this is marketed for 3 to 5 year olds.

There comes a time in every hedgehogs life when you have to learn to forage for yourself. Herbie’s first adventure is a big one, on a cold snowy night.
