when the protagonist of a book is a annoying i always feel like i’m being gaslit. like, am i supposed to like her and i just don’t? is there something wrong with me?

this was 90% coding drama that dragged the book down (sue me for almost flunking computer science) and the remaining 10% was the snippet of “romance” we got at the end.

✓ stem school
✓ app-making and coding things
✓ Asian characters
✓ friendship dynamic
✓ supportive and caring family
✓ subtle friends-to-lovers subplot

in conclusion: this was a fun read!

(more-coherent) review to come. and note: i'm still deciding the rating i will give.

an e-ARC copy was provided by Edelweiss and Penguin Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.

Cute and good and fun, I would recommend!! The plotline with the app was so interesting, and the book touched on issues of classism and racism. The characters did feel a little too... realistic? (not the word I'm looking for, but I can't find a better one so we'll work with it😅) I can't really explain this but they reminded me more of actual teenagers than fictional characters, and personally I prefer fictional characters. But yeah overall it was a good time and I enjoyed it a lot.

I am loving Jennifer Yen's retellings. They always feel like they add something a bit extra to the experience in this story's case, a bit of STEM magic.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.
