Truthfully, I loved this storyline.

I mean I enjoyed it, but there’s definitely some questionable content in it. It’s super stereotypical and she has some racist thoughts and nearly everyone in this book besides Michael were awful at some point. Honestly just continuing for Michael but I’m hoping there’s some growth because it’s definitely needed. I like that these are super easy to read & don’t need so much focus.

Also, imagine being a single parent, you get pregnant to your boyfriend & leave the country WITHOUT your kid? I’m so confused why Mia keeps saying her parents are OK parents... her mum comes across as a very immature person who is living off her dads money? I think if her art stuff was shown more, but even then when it is it’s to say she’s meant to be working but is super behind and probably won’t finish so HOW is she making money besides Mia’s dads money? And she has NO problem with it, but is mean to be some super feminist? How? She’s literally a bum mooching of her childs rich parent?

And the dad legit hung up on her when she was clearly freaking out about her mum being missing? But had the nerve to be hurt that she was worried he wouldn’t stop the wedding?

And LILY. wow was she bad in this one. She comes off SO condescending and RUDE. Mia is sometimes but I really don’t see how they’re friends. Mia is a pushover and lets Lily walk all over her. That interview was AWFUL and she should have been more mad her friend recorded her, showed her face after saying she wouldn’t, and putting footage with conversation that CLEARLY identified her after she agreed not to. I wouldn’t be friends with her after that.

This review appears on my blog: https://confessionsofabookwormweb.wordpress.com/2020/07/20/book-review-princess-in-the-spotlight-the-princess-diaries-2-by-meg-cabot/

Princess in the Spotlight picks up shortly after the events of the first book, Mia is so over Josh Richter, but she's also realized that she is in love with Michael Moscovitz, her best friend's brother. Lilly has found another injustice to protest. Grandmere has arranged for Mia to have her first TV interview, which she wants to try and get out of. Not to mention that on top of all of this her mom is pregnant (!) with her algebra teacher's baby (!!).

However, the one silver lining is that Mia has a secret admirer wwh refuses to reveal himself and Mia is left guessing - although she does hope that Michael is her secret admirer. But then Mia lets slip the secret that her mom is pregnant on national TV and Grandmere is now planning the wedding of the century, even though her mom is against the idea of a big do for her wedding...oh, and her grandparents from Indiana have ome to town along with her cousin Hank, who seems to have captured Lilly's attention, as well as the attention of most of the girls at Albert Einstein High School.

Again, I really had a fun time reading this second installment in The Princess Diaries series. While they might not be the most well-written books, they are still enjoyable and fun to read and something light t read in the midst of everything that has gone on so far this year. I am so glad that I decided to re-read this series. 3/5 Stars.

4.5 stars *reread
These books FLY by.. I JUST started this book and I feel like I haven't spent hardly any time reading it! While I still loved this book, I don't think it's AS good as the first, and I think it's closer to 4.5 stars.
Mia finally starts having to do more public Princess things like her big interview (man could you IMAGINE? I would have passed out probably..). In the first book she goes through a huge change finding out about being a princess.. this book has some really big changes too. More with her mom and (sort of) love life though!
Definitely a fun book and I'm looking forward to rereading the next one!

Spoiler One thing that I noticed this time rereading the books, is how quickly Mia moves on from Josh to Michael. Mia NOTICES Lily's bother in the first book, but she wasn't in love with him or anything. Her focus was completely on Josh. While I'm really happy that she was able to move on so quickly after she realized how much of a tool Josh really is, I'm still not sure it's that believable. Most 14 year olds would probably dwell at least a LITTLE bit about their old crush.. I mean she still sees Josh at school and stuff. Then again, Mia is 14 and we know how crushes go at that age I guess...

I remember the first time reading this I TOTALLY thought that Jo-C-Rox was Michael, just like Mia hoped. Now of course, when Mia started getting the letters and instant messages I knew it was Kenny.. It was actually a little obvious. I don't know how I didn't see it the first time. Mia doesn't even talk about that many other guys other than Josh, Michael, Kenny, and Boris.. And we know that Boris really likes Lily.. So ya. I remember how awkward everything is for Mia coming up soon so I'm not really looking forward to the next book as much. haha Kenny is just an awkward dude..

I'm so excited for Mia to have a little half brother or sister! I'm also glad that she seems to finally be over her mom dating her Algebra teacher.
I'm also proud of Mia's dad for helping out Mia's mom and Mr. Gianini. Of course Mia's Grandma was SUPER mad.. but she should have listened..

I feel bad for Michael. The way he reacted to seeing Kenny put his arm around Mia.. It's clear he at least likes her a LITTLE. Plus, inviting her out with the group on Halloween and saying she looks nice and everything..
