This book was okay, a fairly predictable read and though the wild child’s story is rooted in neglect and abuse it’s a fairly light read overall. I liked how Julia turned Alice’s room into a sanctuary for her. This storyline has been done before, remember the movie “Nell” with Jodie Foster?

An issue that rubbed me the wrong way was how Kristin Hannah referred to her as a possible “autistic” and drew a fairly negative connotation for that type of neurodiversity. I guess she wrote this in 2006 and since then autism has become much better understood and accepted as a brain difference but the way she writes about it certainly seems borderline offensive. I feel like this could’ve been done with significantly more sensitivity and understanding of the issue of autism, instead of likening it to a wild child that’s lived in the woods with wolves and eating dandelions and totally not potty-trained and completely terrified of humans and not able to speak or communicate at all.

Overall it’s my least favorite of the author’s books I’ve read.

This is a hard one to review. Right off the bat I had a 5 star book in my head simply because of who the author is and my past experiences reading her books. The further I got into the story, I dropped to a 3.5-4 star book- bits of the book seemed to drag on and although I was still interested, it wasn’t the same read as my expectations held up for Kristin Hannah. The end was rough, deff got teary eyed at some parts and I enjoyed the ending.

What bad writing! No idea if the story was going to shape up to anything but I doubt it just couldn't continue with it.

I couldn’t stop reading this book, I just had to see what happened with the girl and all the members of the town. However things just wrapped up a little too neatly for me, very fairy talesque.
