Guys, I'm SO conflicted on this book!!

Was this book particularly good? No, not really. Was it absolutely addicting to listen to? Yes. Spent two days doing nothing else.

I love Aiden. What. A. Man. The quiet way he shows Van he loves her šŸ˜šŸ˜ the way he stands up for her šŸ˜šŸ˜ really had me sobbing ngl

Can't stand Van. She was so fun at first but then it just turned really pick-me and if there's one thing I HATE it's pick-me's.

Still, the relationship was so cute! Yes it was technically very slow burn but we all knew they were gonna end up together in the end and it made all the pre-relationship situations so much cuter for me.

Some other stuff I had issues with:
ā€“ Van's family gives major Cinderella vibes but not retelling vibes, Cinderella vibes straight out of the fairytale. Completely two-dimensional. Oh and why are they assholes? Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, of course
ā€“ Aiden is groped/sexually harassed in front of Van and she laughs about it for like ten minutes. Ew.
ā€“ Van gets into sports! Theoretically fun but she only does it after Aiden's manager says she's fat. And there's so much focus on her losing weight, it became a bit uncomfortable

So ā€“ why did I even like this? I don't know. I like Aiden. I like puppies. I like "I loved you from the start". The writing is good.

Will read more Zapata books, trying to find a book as great as Lukov was xoxo

I'm starting to understand that you can always make time for the things that matter.

ykno it was fun and fresh. vanessas family stuff was sad
wish there was some sort of resolution to vanessa's trauma
aiden was a little autism-spec coded, i doubt that was intentional but it could've been interesting if it was

Really endearing and cute. Loved the development of the main couple. Definitely a slow burn.

I have never felt more seen as a reader. I know, I know, there are A-LOT of authors out there that are able to conjure a character that looks like us all and reminds us of ourselves. HOWEVER, Van was just this perfect little combination of every niche imaginable and I loved her. As always with these kitschy romance novels the ending felt rushed but in this case it was okay because we were teased with a slow burn the whole damn time. The characters mesh well with one another and the prose is easy to read, Iā€™d recommend it to someone who was a fan of these kinds of books for sure. I also see myself reading more from Zapata in the near future.

Very slow burn romance but very satisfying. Also, I typically don't go for sports-themed romances, but the football and the marriage-of-convenience trope here were both really just a backdrop in this story of two people learning to trust and love each other.

Oh, Mariana. How I love this book ā¤ļø

I adore a book where you feel all the feels.
We went through hating the grump football player Aiden, to tolerating him, yo understanding him, then loving him. šŸ«

I do love when a dumb single minded (football) man opens up his eyes to see what is right in front of his face. šŸ™ˆšŸ‘€šŸ‘‹

Vanessa knew her worth and wasn't a pushover. I love that about her. Aiden was protective but let her do her own thing. šŸ„°

I don't re-read many books, but this is definitely on the list šŸ’•šŸ’–
