It was a fine book but I was not enraptured when reading it. The world building was a but too slow and the character building was a bit too fast. I am glad to be finished but I will not be reading the next book. True rating: 2.75

I really enjoyed this book. It was slow in the start but then it picks up and you do not want to put it down. The concepts is really cool with people being the season. Some things were a bit too easy to figure out and relationships were bonded fast. A little bit disappointed by the end and let down. Overall a fun read

I really liked the storyline. I thought the characters were well written and given such depth an it was a very fun read!
I am only giving 4 stars because Jack losing his power in the end felt so out of place given the context of the entire story. It didn't seem right that magic couldn't save his life. It needed to be taken back given to someone else and then he's given immortality by the choice of Fleur. It just seemed a little bit of a stretch to me.
The only other issue I have is that this book wrapped up real nice in the end. It seemed like every loose end was pretty much tied up and it didn't leave a lot of wiggle room for a sequel, but apparently there is a sequel. Not really sure which way it's going to go or if the plot is going to be recycled with new characters.
Still a great story over all. I do think it is worth reading! The story alone is a refreshing take on the whole magic and mythology thing we see so often in fantasy writing!

I did not manage to finish this book (read about 60%).
This cover is beautiful, which is why I initially picked this book up and why it still receives the one star. The synopsis sounded interesting but once I started reading, it all fell flat for the following reasons:
I did not feel any connection to the characters and just didn't really care about them. I also feel like a lot of the relationships were already established at the beginning of the book, so there wasn't much room for development. The reader is told that things are a certain way, but you never get truly into the story to experience it. It just feels like the author is putting things in as a side note, just to give you some insight into the characters/plot.
My biggest problem though, was the concept of this book (not going into spoilers) but I found it scientifically lacking. I'm not even sure if where this story goes is scientifically possible, but if you go on this direction, then at least try to justify and explain why things are the way they are.
Also, there was this weird bit of magic in there that I didn't see the point of and that never seemed to be bound to any rules.
Not a book I would recommend

3.5/5 rounded up to 4
Was a bit slow to start but I felt myself getting invested by about chapter 17.
An interesting concept of the seasons each being people set to battle each other when the turn of the season is due.
Plenty of action, love interest and political intrigue and a couple of decent twists.
Ended with a good tidy ending but a few potential plotlines to continue the duology with book 2.

This is a DNF for me.
Jack Frost retelling.
Seasons kill each other as one season ends and the other starts. Spring is supposed to kill Winter as winter weakens, it makes it easier for Spring to kill. They have a ranking system to see which season can last the longest, and a handler who communicates them via transmiter. The story is more scifi when I was expecting fantasy. Also, I'm not a fan of the writing style at all. Very disappointing!
Winter (Jack) and Spring (Fluer) fall in love, which is forbidden by Gaia who gave them eternal life as seasons in physical, human form. The book starts with how Jack becomes Winter then it goes straight into the story with Spring hunting Winter and they are already in love with each other. There's no romance or build up. There's little explanation of how the world is set up, maybe it happens later on, but I couldn't go on past a few chapters.

This was a very cool concept! Loved the magic system, but I wish there was more distinction in the voices of our two main characters. I kept forgetting whose POV I was reading from because they both sounded so similar.
