I listened to the audiobook, read by the author herself and boy do I recommend doing that! I believe it adds a massive extra layer to this already brilliant, heartbreaking biography. Do look up all trigger warnings before reading, because it gets very graphic and raw.

Read it in one day. I don't think that if i let it down I would be able to pick it up again.
Written in a light-hearted way, the story of a person that wanted nothing more than to make her mother happy and how said mother took advantage of her child's love and talent, going against her will in almost every single way. I was left on edge the entire book, wishing to know more, wishing to have never known, shocked with how much love can be twisted (but at the same time, not shocked at all, love is as ugly as it can be beautiful after all, yet no parent should treat their child like that and I am happy Jennette is in a better place).

A absolutely triggering but emotional masterpiece. Not a book you should read when you're in a bad headspace, but one that everyone should read. 5 stars. And fuck The Creator, Narrcisists, and Nickelodeon.

This book is a heartbreaking look at Jeannette McCurdy’s life and rise to fame as a child actor. She is vulnerable and opens up about dealing with mental illness, and abusive narcissistic mother, and her eating disorder. This book has a lot of triggering topics but it’s well worth the read.

The way McCurdy tells her story is so well written that it gripped me from the beginning. I liked the short chapters so I could pick it up whenever I had a few spare moments. Some of the topics were relatable for me and it made me feel seen at times. I admire and respect Jennette’s raw honesty and bravery in writing this book.
