This was a childhood favorite of mine. When I came across it in the library I was so pleased that it was still as enjoyable as when I was a young girl,

I read this book as a child and have remembered loving it (and all haunted doll books) for years. My mom even says she remembers it scaring me to death as a kid. Re-reading it as an adult, though, it's mostly really sad. The circumstances surrounding the doll are super sad but the mother/daughter dynamic and their grief over Ashley's father is even sadder. Hahn is so good at making you care deeply about characters in 100 pages or so.

I bought this book at a book fair as a child in school. It was my FAVORITE book for many years and I still treasure the original paperback book. Over the years I thought I lost my copy and came across another copy in a bookshop as an adult. Seeing it brought back so many memories so I bought it and read it to my child! I was happy to discover my original copy hidden away at my parent's house years later. So now I have two copies of this fantastic book that I will always hold dear to my heart and hope to read it to future grandchildren some day. This book sparked my curiosity of ghosts and actually my love for gardening! I always wanted to thank Mary Downing Hahn for writing a book that inspired me so much as a young child. This book was my escape from many things over many years!!!!

I first read this book when I was 8 or 9 years old, and re-read it again and again until I graduated from elementary school. I remember, that when I was that young, this book totally rocked... however, I don't know how it would appeal to an adult who never read it growing up.

The first book I read by Mary Downing Hahn was 'Wait Till Helen Comes' I enjoyed the book so much that I brought this one.

I really enjoyed the story and I thought it was well written for the younger audience. Although it was short and sweet, you connected which the main characters very well, especially Ashley.

As I am not part of the younger audience, I wasn't spooked by what went on, but became sad by the events which happened throughout the story. Because Ashely's Dad passed away, you really connect with her to the point where you find yourself being sad together. As she beings to open up and explain her feelings towards the passing of her Dad, you feel quiet sorry for her.

An enjoyable easy read which allows you to be apart of the story every step of the way.
