I was really excited about this one. The premise sounded so good!! The execution just did not do it for me. I love a good haunted house tale and haunted boarding schools are at the top of the list. Unfortunately, the story was not very cohesive or interesting. The alternating timelines were not explained until close to the end of the book, and the twist was just bizarre!! I found myself having to re-read whole chapters, thinking I had a missed some detail, only to find out that the missing details were either included at the end or not at all. I really wish this story had been told in a different way - I can see potential in it, but it sadly did not reach that potential for me.

So this book starts as a fairly typical haunted house mystery and then end somewhere completely different. I was really impressed with the ending (no spoilers) but note most of the story is Gothic Horror with an argentian flavor, so if you don't like Gothic Horror be warned going in.

This was a solid 4 star book, up to about 60% through...then I would've knocked another star off for starting to get weirdly stretched out...then the "big twist" came and it cemented it as a one star. It wasn't clever or exciting. It was lazy and a total turn around then what we were signed up to get in this book.

This book would not end! Seriously, it never stopped. And horror it was not.

The twist was.... meh.

Turned into something like Westworld meets Ready Player One but not done well. I didn’t care about any of the characters. It was so forced. Made hungry though, there is a lot of food mentioned.

Not sure if I want to 4 star this or 1 star it. The ending is ridiculous and made me want to throw it into a dumpster fire. I’m all for a twist, but come on. I feel the need to play Candy Crush for a few days to clean my brain out.
